About John

I started studying Kenpo Karate in 1973, in Long Island, NY.

In 1980, I chose to open a studio, teaching Kenpo full time, in New York, personally working one on one with thousands of students.

In 1994, I sold my studios, and moved to Cincinnati with my family, opening a studio on the East Side, teaching Kenpo full time until 2000.

Kenpo is focused on practical self defense, building proficiency through techniques which simulate real life situations.

Kenpo is not well suited for small children, due to the focus of the training. I would recommend a student be +10 years old.

I have attained the rank of 8th degree Black Belt in Kenpo, and have promoted over 50 Students to the black belt ranks since 1979.

I am looking forward to introducing new students to Kenpo!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Martial Arts

After studying Kenpo for 6 years, I was promoted to Shodan, 1st degree Black Belt, on April 11, 1979.

My last promotion to Hachidan, 8th degree Black Belt, was on June 1st, 2002.
