Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Dyslexia

I have a Special Education degree and have worked with Dyslexic children for many years. I have had success with many dyslexic children in teaching them to read, spell, and pass OAT tests. I have many teaching materials to help Dyslexics. The best part of teaching is witnessing a child learn to read that has dyslexia.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have an Elementary Education degree from Morehead State University. I have also successfully taught students from grades K-grade 6 at some time during my career. Most of my career has been spent in middle school age students. I have managed up to 32 students at a time and have taught regular ed students both in Social Studies and English.

Elementary Math

I have taught math for years to special education students. My students usually perform very well on the Ohio Achievement Test and even the ones who do not pass, show great increases in their scores from year to year, I have attended many workshops in the past, demonstrating how to make math more fun and applicable to real life.

Grammar

I have spent the last 2 years teaching English and grammar to grades 6-8. The students include both special needs and at risk students ages 12-15.

Phonics

I have several phonics classes in my BA. Also, I have all the classes for the Reading Endorsement and that includes 2-3 classes in phonics. I have also tutored for many years using phonics as a remediation technique. I am versed in may forms of remediation including IBMFE, ASDO, Brigance, Woodcock-Johnson etc... I also have a lot of materials that are for phonics.

Reading

I have been working with 2 students who are dyslexic. We have been using the Wilson Reading program and it has shown great results. I am continuing my education by attending a Wilson workshop in June. I will then be a certified Wilson instructor.

Special Needs

I have a MA degree in Special Education from Marshall University. I have also taught Special Education for 23 years in the state of Ohio. I have worked with children who are LD, DH, BD, Autistic, and multi-handicapped.

Spelling

I am versed with several challenging spelling techniques. I use the word cut apart, wiki sticks, chunking and even the Wilson Reading Program deals a lot with the phonetical aspect of teaching spelling. I am attending a workshop this summer so that I can become a certified Wilson teacher.
