About Cleophas

Teaching has been a historical challenge and opportunity through out my life. My first experience teaching was as a catechist in the Catholic Ministry where I taught the catechism to my peers when I was 14 years old in order to prepare them for confirmation. The next was as a tutor at Mercy College where I taught biology to sophomore students. As a graduate assistant at Long Island University, I also taught students on the use of the internet and microsoft applications including Word, Excell, Access and Power point at the computer laboratory. The experience in college did prepare me for the future.

Teaching was my first step into the employment world after graduation. My first job was as a Chemistry and Mathematics teacher in high school where I taught a class of 35 students each at the 11th and 12th grade for their GED. I did this for one semester before getting a more technical job in my area of expertise but the experience had a lasting impact on the students who still remember me today as their teacher.

Over the past 6 years, I have been a long distance site co-ordinator for the University of Washington helping to provide internet based learning to clinicians in limited resources settings. Through the Global Health program, I have been able to teach the following courses asynchronously, HIV Clinical Management, Global Leadership and Management and Principles of STD/HIV Research.

Our work has enabled over 60 clinicians to obtain graduate certificates in Global Health. Moreover, I have been able to develop my own curriculum in STD and HIV clinical management for clinicians in limited resource settings as part of the clinical mentoring program. These 3 month based curriculums have been accredited by the Caribbean College of Family Practitioners for over 30 CME credits which now help clinicians to get re-licensed every 2 years. My focus is now on expanding individual and group teaching through the clinical mentoring process which enables clinicians to independently treat patients with HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.

With regards to tennis, I was a former associate instructor of the USPTR and have been coaching junior tennis for over 25 years. Some of my roles included being an assistant coach in junior development at the Ardsley Country Club in New York. Currently , I teach on a part time basis at the Cleveland Racquet Club primarily in the junior program with children under 17 years. I continue to improve my tennis game and help other with the fundamentals and discipline on an ongoing basis.

If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
