Hello! I have close to twenty years of experience in private and one-on-one tutoring in a variety of settings and subjects. Some of the subjects I tutor are math, pre-algebra, algebra, Biology, English, reading, test prep (ACT, SAT, ASVAB, OGT, to name a few), and study skills. I specialize in learners with dyslexia, ADHD, ADD, Asberger's, and autism, but I tutor a wide variety of students of all ages. I am reliable, positive, and flexible, and my students enjoy great results.

I have a clear state and federal background check. I also have experience in writing, proofreading, editing, and grant-writing.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I am a former editor and proofreader who is well-versed in grammar. I can teach about 25 valuable hints and rules to excel in the ACT English section.

ACT Math

I am a math tutor who specializes in pre-algebra, algebra, and geometry. I am well-versed in strategies for standardized testing, especially the ACT.

I have been tutoring children, adolescents, and adults with ADD/ADHD for at least twenty years.

I received specialized training as a full inclusion special ed. aide in California. I have a k-8 credential with an emphasis in teaching differently abled learners to focus better in the areas of comprehension and using effective language.

I also excel at teaching concentration, memorization, and organizational skills.

I have been working with children, adolescents, and adults with autism for over twenty years. I have received training in California and in Ohio at the Cleveland Clinic to help people with autism learn more effectively to develop adaptive social skills.

I have assisted people on the autism spectrum in school, at home, and in work settings. I have been an aide, a 1:1, a coach, a teacher, a tutor, a behavior plan developer, an ISP/IEP team member, a staff person in residential care, and a program manager.

And I really like people with autism!

Award-winning private tutor who specializes in science, math, English, and test prep. I have a B.A. in Biology from Kenyon College and have taught physiology & anatomy and microbiology to nursing students. I've tutored for high-school honors biology and physiology, as well as the science portion of the ACT.

I passed the CBEST before I got my teaching credential. I scored in a very high percentile.

Common Core

I have been tutoring common-core subjects grades 6 through 11 for the past three years (as long as it's been in Ohio). I am familiar with Pearson online common-core tutorials, quizzes, and tests. I am also practiced at conventional paper-and-pencil common-core homework, tasks, quizzes, review, and testing materials.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have an elementary school (K-8) teaching credential.

My teaching credential includes a CLAD emphasis (language acquisition and linguistics).

Highly experienced in geometry, both basic and advanced. Simple helpful strategies, flexible, friendly style. Lots of practice, support, homework help, and test preparation.

In my teaching credential program at Sonoma State University, I took masters level courses on reading and attended several conferences and workshops on phonics and whole language, as well as conversational pragmatics, linguistics, and reading comprehension. I have a multiple subject teaching credential with an emphasis in language acquisition. I am strong in the areas of mechanics, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary development.

I took the PRAXIS at the end of my credential training in order to receive my teaching credential. I scored in the 99th percentile. That is the top 1%.

I have been tutoring students to help them prepare for standardized testing for over ten years.

I took several sociology courses as prerequisites for my teaching credential. I have a 4.0 GPA in these classes, and one professor said my final paper was worthy of a Master's thesis.

Special Needs

My experience with children with special needs began in 1991. I have extensive experience with persons with autism spectrum disorder, in a variety of environments. I worked as a full inclusion tutor for Behavioral Couseling and Research Center in California, one of the first agencies in the state to utilize applied behavior analysis programming.

I am quite successful at integrating many types of behvioral techniques with teaching strategies. I work well in the home as well as in schools and in vocational settings. As a tutor, I am a positive, upbeat person who puts the students and parents at ease. Even the most severe behaviors are not a barrier to learning. Parents often remark on my quick results and the steady progress the students make.

I hold training certifications in k-8 teaching, Crisis Prevention, and ABA. I have trained staff in the areas of behavioral interventions, task analyses, behavior plans, and documentation. I work well with others and welcome opportunities to further my own education.

Study Skills

This is an area of real strength in my tutoring. I incorporate study skills and strategies in all subjects that I tutor. No matter the age of the student, study skills that encompass efficient, effective study are a big help. I teach organization, hints for success, test strategies, and time management.

I am well qualified to help prep for the entry-level skills tested by the TEAS. The areas of concentration (math, science, English, and language) are all areas of strength in my tutoring. These subjects are also on the ACT and SAT, which I have tutored for many years.

Additionally, I teach challenge courses to help nursing students earn RNs by earning credit hours by CLEP exams. These exams are much more difficult than the TEAS.
