Universoty pf Akron (Education)
Hi. I have taught in elementary, middle, & high schools for a little over 10 years. I also have experience as an intervention specialist, primarily with middle school students in the area of math, reading/language arts.
Working as an intervention specialist (tutor) allows me to specify lessons & strategies to specific students' needs. It also allows the lesson to proceed at a pace the student is comfortable with. I look forward to being able to help you.
I spent three years working with a veteran teacher in his math class where I saw techniques he used & what students responded positively too. I know this is a subject many students struggle with & understand it requires patience and time from the tutor. I am capable of providing both.
In addition to my education degree, I also have a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism/Public Relations. This seems to be a subject many students are hesitant about learning, but can also find quite rewarding once they overcome their apprehensions. In my 5+ years of teaching English, I have learned to accept students' reservations, but have also learned how to overcome them and actually make this subject enjoyable to them. I have taught both elementary and middle school English for over 5 years.
While a good amount of my experience has involved teaching middle school math, many times I must go back to more primary math concepts and actually reteach elementary math. Breaking it down and simplifying math, at any level, is the key to understanding it- I believe. Therefore, often it's necessary to take a step backwards in order to take future ones forward. I learned this while teaching both fourth and fifth grade math.
I've been an intervention specialist (tutor) for approximately 5 years. I enjoy being able to work with students individually or in small groups. it allows me to specify lessons to their needs an preferences. I look forward to doing this with you and giving you the benefits of my experience. Hi. I have taught in elementary, middle, & high schools for a little over 10 years. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
