My love for teaching and tutoring has grown out of my love and desire to be a life long learner. I can remember through my educational history the absolute thrill to learn and master a skill. I experience this same thrill when, through personal tutoring, I witness the absolute joy of a child or adult learner who masters a skill as a direct result of my tutoring interaction and mentorship with them. As a magna cum laude graduate at the bachelors, masters, and now doctorate level of learning, I am proof positive that personal hard work and dedication to the learning process pays off.
As a prior senior pastor, I implement and hold the highest degree of integrity, ethics, and standards in my tutoring interaction with the student. And with that personal career history, I consider my tutoring efforts to be a direct impartation of skills and that of a relationship that is more of mentorship versus a simple teacher-learner exchange. Therefore, I hold and regard the opportunity to teach and tutor as a great privilege, honor and reward. My personal mantra is, "I don't just teach---- I GET to teach!!" It is NOT an opportunity I take lightly.
Holding an Associate of Arts degree in Pastor Studies, part of my personal career history is that of a Senior Pastor. In the mid-1990's, my wife and I founded, pioneered, and oversaw a local church of approximately 1500 attendees. Through this education and experience, I possess and maintain expertise that allows me to be very intuitive and capable in Biblical studies from hermaneutics to apologetics, from simple old testament or new testament survey to Biblical history. Throughout this role, I also studied and concentrated very heavily on effective public speaking and the ongoing practice of sermon and speech writing and formulation.
Public speaking and presentational skills were further honed and perfected through 10+ years of training and facilitation and consulting as a human resources and consulting professional. Having now completed my doctorate degree (all but dissertation), I have experienced the highest degree of concentration on English and grammar functionality as well as reading/research, writing, and composition at the very highest collegiate level. In both ministry and corporate backgrounds, I have worked with a wide array of students and professionals and find equal joy and satisfaction in helping students from every age and background, whether it be an elementary student or a college freshman or an adult learner who is continuing to further their education.
Because of my standard of excellence in tutoring, I will never bill for a session in which the student (or student/parent) are not completely satisfied. Because I consider my interaction with with the student a form of mentorship versus basic learning, it is my utmost goal to insure that the student masters whatever skill they are being tutored in. My ultimate goal is for the student to have an experience that causes them to fall in love with learning as a result of their interaction with me.
I do maintain a 24 hour cancellation policy. However, having been a husband and a dad with 6 children and having worked 40 hours a week through all of my degree programs, I understand "being busy" and having a very active schedule. Therefore, I try in every turn to implement a spirit of flexibility, typically offering students (student/parent) the opportunity to make up the session versus canceling altogether. Additionally, there may be some instances in which I myself may wind up with an unexpected conflict. In these instances I will ALWAYS work with the student (student/parent) to reschedule.
I prefer to teach/tutor in an environment that is conducive to learning, interaction and feedback. It is important that the environment is comfortable, but not distracting. For the benefit of the students, I operate in a large commuting radius and so I do not maintain an office for tutoring. I have found that most students tend to perform and interact better in an environment that they are comfortable in. Therefore, I typically encourage students to exercise tutoring sessions in the comfort of their home, but to have a designated "quiet area" where instruction and interaction can take place without interruptions. I am also willing to, as requested by the student, to meet them in a library or school area if preferred as long as the facility falls within my tutoring radius.
Remember, the learning/tutoring process is about you as the student grasping and mastering a learning objectives and tasks. The focus is completely on you and your success. My role it to be a catalyst to help the student realize that success. So the entire process is an adventure for me to help you build on successful experiences. I look forward to working with you and here's to your continued, future successes!!! My love for teaching and tutoring has grown out of my love and desire to be a life long learner. I can remember through my educational history the absolute thrill to learn and master a skill. I experience this same thrill when, through personal tutoring, I witness the absolute joy of a child or adult learner who masters a skill as a direct result
