Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Composition (Music)

I have a bachelor's degree in music from the Ohio State University where my major was music theory and composition. I also received my teaching certificate in music from the Ohio State University. I teach beginning piano with the Francis Clark Method which involves music theory.

Ear Training

I have perfect pitch. At the Ohio State University, I tested out of 5 quarters of sight singing. The one quarter that I took the class, I received an A. I come from a very musically talented family.

Flute

I have played flute since 1975. Flute was my principal instrument when I majored in music at the Ohio State University. I was one of the seniors who performed at Carnegie Hall in the Ohio State University Concert Band back in February of 1985.
I play flute and piccolo in the worship team for my church, New Song Community Church. I also play flute and piccolo in the Reynoldsburg Community band.

General Music

I am an Ohio-licensed music teacher. I have taught muaic in the Columbus City Schools for 15 years, mainly elementary, but middle school as well. I have taught general music pre-k through 7th grades, vocal music (choirs) 2nd-8th grades, and instrumental (4th and 5th grades).

Piano

I took piano lessons from 1st through 3rd grades. I competed in at least one piano contest in first grade. I now teach beginning piano to two students with the Frances Clark Music Tree books.

Sight Singing

I have perfect pitch. In college, I tested out of 5 sight-singing required classes. I got an A in the one class I did take. I am fully able to hear part of a recording and write them down on manuscript paper.
