About Dion

I have a Ph.D. in physics and chemistry, a Master's degree in physics, and an honors Bachelor of Science degree in physics with a minor in mathematics. My dissertation work involved computational solid-state theory, which allowed me to further develop skills in numerical analysis, math, and computer programming. I have taught at all levels and in many different subjects. I worked in the systems engineering industry for several years and currently, I'm developing applications for the iPhone and iPad.

I very much enjoy problem solving, logic, and trying to understand nature. I'm fascinated with learning, and I am excited about passing on knowledge, insights, and solutions to others. I find it extremely rewarding to help people figure things out and to observe the sense of accomplishment that results. I'm of the opinion that our world is a better place with a higher level of knowledge and understanding.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

With a Ph.D. in physics, I have quite a bit of experience in mathematics. I have helped other students become more confident and achieve higher scores on various aptitude tests.

Algebra 2

As a physicist, I have a deep understanding of the importance of mathematics in describing and understanding the world around us. I have worked with many students at all levels of math and I enjoy helping them become more comfortable and confident with the techniques.

Calculus

As a physicist, I use calculus on a regular basis. I enjoy helping students gain insight and understanding of the subject.

Differential Equations

I have a Ph.D. In physics. This field makes extensive use of differential equations. I enjoy tutoring students in mathematics and I have tutored extensively in areas of higher math such as calculus, which includes differential equations.

Elementary Math

I have a Ph.D. In physics which has afforded me the pleasure of working with mathematics at all levels. I enjoy working with students to help them build a solid foundation in math that will support all future paths of study.

Geometry

I have a Ph.D. In physics which requires a deep understanding of mathematics. I enjoy helping students build a solid foundation in math that will support any future field of study.

Linear Algebra

I have a Ph.D. In physics, which requires a deep understanding of linear algebra. My research work was in computational physics, which makes use of linear algebra. I have used the techniques of linear algebra extensively in modeling and simulation work in my career. I'm currently tutoring at levels of mathematics below and above linear algebra.

Organic Chemistry

I completed several organic chemistry classes in the pursuit of my Ph.D. in chemistry. I enjoy the subject and I feel that it provides a foundation for many of the concepts in the study of chemistry. Organic chemistry is a very broad as well as deep subject. Students can be intimidated and overwhelmed while trying to master its complexities. I feel that I can provide guidance, understanding, and confidence to individuals who may be struggling with the subject.

Physics

I have a Ph.D. In physics and have used it in many fields in my career. I enjoy helping students come to an understanding with the concepts and fundamentals.

Down to Earth and knowledgable!

Was able to relate material into "everyday" instances or "experiences" so that I could better understand it. Chemistry is a foreign language to me,but I was able to grasp some concepts I couldn't before.
