About Alicia

Hello!
If you are looking for an experienced in tutor who is capable in a variety of subjects, please contact me! I have earned dual bachelor degrees in Computer Engineering and Biometric Systems with minors in Nanotechnology and Computer Science. During my college years, I worked as a tutor for the engineering department. I also served as a tutor for the university's disability services by working with special needs students in a variety of subjects. I am able to tutor in any math subject including Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, Statistics, and pre-calculus concepts along with ACT/SAT prep. Other subjects I have tutored in the past include a variety of science subjects including elementary concepts to college freshman level chemistry, biology, and physics; history and religion, and English as a foreign language. Lastly, I am able to work with those who would be interested in computer programming in Java, HTML, and MATLAB.

My approach to working with a student is initially making a goal plan so the student and I both know what the student wants out of each tutoring session. Then I will create lesson plans tailored to the student's learning style which will be adjusted as time goes on. My main goal in tutoring is to help the student feel comfortable with a subject and creating a set of personalized study skills that the student can use in future courses.

My times available are very flexible. I prefer to meet at a public place or online. Below are my current location options:
Middleburg Heights Library
Strongsville McDonald's at 14615 PEARL RD
Berea Library
If you are looking for a patient tutor who is willing to teach you how to do your homework rather than do your homework for you, allow me to work with you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 2

I have tutored Algebra II for 8+ years. Recently I have been tutoring out of my home, but I have worked for a university and after hours at a high school. Several students have had success in the course after working with me.

Bible Studies

I have been a Bible student since I learned to read. I have taught several children's classes on the subject along with having in-depth one-on-one studies with adults on subjects such as how Daniel relates to Revelations. I have taken a course in New Testament studies at my university that I received an A in. I use the Bible has my only source for it's teachings, but I use secular history to give context to the time along with seeing how Bible history and secular history match.

Special Needs

I tutored for West Virginia University's Disability services during part of my time as a student there. I was exposed to a variety of students with different needs and was able to tailor their desired subject to fit their learning style. I also work with my young brother who has mild Autism and has a rare bone disease which causes him difficulties in writing and concentrating.

Study Skills

Study habits are an important skill students can learn at any age. I help the student develop these habits by showing them how to schedule their time efficiently and how prevent procrastination problems. I have worked with several students in the past 6 years to not only learn their subject, but how to create personal study habits that they can apply for the rest of their education journey.
