I am an elementary school teacher in my twenty-eighth year of classroom experience. Fourteen of those years were in a second grade classroom, but since then I've been teaching fifth graders. As a second grade teacher, I was awarded a National Council of Teachers of mathematics award and was just this year nominated as my school's representative for Teacher of the Year in my district.
I pride myself on building a good rapport with my students on a daily basis. I try to maintain a safe, comfortable, enriching, and fun classroom environment for my students. I want to make sure the boys and girls look forward to school each and every day just as I'll want your child to enjoy coming to our tutoring sessions. These sessions should not be something a student dreads but opportunities where they feel safe to make mistakes and have the confidence to want to try new things.
If relevant, I may provide extra practice and/or application assignments and administer periodic assessments to evaluate student progress. If your child is currently in school, I am willing to make contact with the classroom teacher to see in what areas my sessions can be most beneficial.
Tutoring sessions will be held in public locations such as libraries or coffee shops. I am available to tutor most Thursday through Monday afternoons and possibly some evenings. Please contact me for more information and to schedule a session.
I look forward to hearing from you and diving right into some lessons to boost your child's academic progress! I am an elementary school teacher in my twenty-eighth year of classroom experience. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I taught second grade for fourteen years and am now working on my eleventh year teaching fifth graders. I am in a self-contained classroom, so I teach all subjects. I've had experience teaching students on Individual Education Plans and 504 plans as well as those who are tagged as gifted cognitively and/or in various subjects. I am not certified to teach Kindergarten, but I have had experience teaching phonics and basic skills to students who were performing far below their grade level.
