I'm a down-to-earth young woman from a small town who has had the chance to travel and live internationally which gives cultural and artistic insight into my work and the way I interact with audiences of all types and ages.
For the past twenty years I have been involved with many different literary and publishing roles and continue to develop my professional skills by not only teaching workshops, but attending them as well.
I hold a master's degree in humanities with a focus in art and literature. During my studies I completed, with top marks, graduate-level art courses and am now an award-winning professional illustrator.
I have over ten years of teaching experience in a variety of situations and students in a range of ages including: elementary school teachers' aide and educational story time performer. And I have experience with one-on-one art tutoring sessions with middle-schoolers. I also have experience with children's picture book lectures and critique sessions for teenagers.
Plus, I have been a ballroom dance instructor/teaching assistant for college-age young adults, have led library art workshops for adults and am a certified Connect Ohio instructor for computer classes for senior citizens.
A published and award-winning member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, I have given numerous speeches and public appearances discussing the art of the storybook and my greatest passion is using my talents to be able to assist others in developing their talents as well. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
A freelance graphic designer for six years, my portfolio includes T-shirt designs utilized by local conferences as well as the banners which hang from the lamp posts lining the main street of my hometown.
I currently serve as the Public Relations Chair for the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and I am responsible for designing the monthly invitations for events and any other assignments for visual communication.
In addition to illustrating my published children's book, I also did the art direction and layout.
As a published author and illustrator, as well as honors student in academia, I have presented papers at scholarly conferences and continue to give speeches and presentations regarding my work as a writer. I also serve as the First Vice Regent and Public Relations Chair for my local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution where I frequently stand up in front of the membership to address certain topics.
