In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have experience advocating, mentoring and tutoring BOYS diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome and Pervasive Developmental Delay (PDD). My approach includes like skills assistance in addition to academic subject tutoring. I participate in IEP meetings at school as support or advocate for parents and student. I have also appeared in court on behalf of an Aspergers boy who was being criminalized due to destruction of school property in his time out room. I have also assisted parents with nutritional approaches to improve their son's performance in school. I have been authorized by parents as an individual to go into their son's school and sign him out and take him home should the school not be able to reach the parents, or, if the parents are unable to leave work or home to go to the school themselves. I use field trips to public libraries as one tool in working with Aspergers boys.

I started piano lessons at 8 years old and continued through my freshman year at college at 18 years old. At that time I continued instrumental music and choir as a minor and took coursework in Music Theory. I will take the Music Theory exam as an adjunct to this piano tutoring opportunity. I have played piano in groups at school, as a soloist and as an accompanist. I studied both classical piano and popular jazz piano simultaneously over those years with two different teachers each week. The teaching I have done in piano so far has been as a substitute music teacher at the elementary school level where I would rotate through classrooms to do a music lesson with the entire class all at once. I also have given private lessons on a very limited basis to adults and children. Many people play piano better than I, but, I can play a heckuva lot better than some as well.
