My personal educational background prior to college is eclectic…online charter school, home school, traditional public school, and dual credit college student. I have completed my first year at the University of Akron in the Accelerated BS/MS in Accountancy program. Prior to that, I completed a number of courses in general studies at KSU and Hiram College since I was 14. This put me in the position of being able to tutor students both younger and older than myself. Up until now my tutoring has been on a volunteer basis.
I have helped adults returning for their master’s degree with formatting papers, younger students transition from traditional curriculum to online school, and struggling college students with algebra, accounting, and English composition. I have been helping students with term papers for 3 years. I proof read the papers, then sit down and explain how to make improvements grammatically, organizationally, and how to avoid plagiarism by proper documentation. I also have taught students to use Excel techniques for appendix charts. I am detail oriented, and I help students who want to put that wow factor into their assignments. I help students analyze the assignment by looking critically at the syllabus, handouts, rubric, or other information given to them by the instructor. Using the criteria given, I help students use technology to write papers, create presentations, and generate professional reports.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
