My name is Stephen. I have been a special education teacher since 1998; presently I am a second grade special education teacher in a 12:1:1 classroom. I graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Criminal Justice in 1993. In 1998, I obtained a master's degree in Special Education from Long Island University. I have taught classes from kindergarten through third grade.
I was diagnosed with a learning disability when I was in second grade. Without the assistance and guidance provided by my teachers, I am not sure I would have been able to accomplish the things that I have. That was part of my motivation to pursue a career in special education.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
