About Natalie

My name is Natalie, and I have worked towards being a teacher my entire life. Currently, I am certified to teach Social Studies (in grades 7-12), Students with Disabilities (in grades K-12) and English as a Second Language (in grades K-12). Throughout the past five years, I have worked in several different educational environments including all three levels of education: Elementary, Middle and High School. I am comfortable working with students with special needs, as I have spent the majority of my working experience in Co-Integrated classrooms (classrooms that contain both mainstream students and those with disabilities). These experiences encouraged me to obtain a Master's degree in Special Education and Teaching English to Students of Other Languages.

I find that most of my success is attributed to the fact that I have a great rapport with students of all ages. I am able to reach them through their interests, and help them find strengths among what they consider their weaknesses. I try my best to make learning an enjoyable experience, while connecting them to concepts they are troubled with.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

I teach 7th and 8th grade American History, as well as have my bachelors degree in History. I also took the AP and IB History courses for American Studies.

Social Studies

I am qualified to tutor students in Social Studies, as I hold a New York State teaching license in Social Studies (7-12). My undergraduate degree was Education with a Concentration in History, and my undergraduate curriculum required a multitude of courses, including Anthropology, Geography, American History, World History and European History as well as a Economics and Government affairs.

Special Needs

I am qualified to work with students with special needs, as I have a teaching license from New York State for teaching Students with Disabilities. I have also had plenty of experience with students with special needs, as I have worked in a co-integrated classroom for 5 years. When working with these students, I usually offer students plenty of timed activities and breaks in order to allow them time to refocus their thoughts, as well as offer them strategies on how to best direct their focus in class.
