SUNY Stony Brook (Master's)
I have been teaching and tutoring high school Spanish for over 12 years years. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish Language and Literature from Stony Brook University where I received the Stony Brook Foundation Award for highest GPA in the Languages Languages Other Than English (LOTE) Department. In addition to my love of the culture and language, I am passionate about the success of my students. I believe that every student is capable of learning a second language.
My teaching methods change with every student because every student learns differently. While some students may do better with audio or visual methods, others succeed using a kinesthetic approach. For this reason, individualized teaching is a necessary component for many learners and it is important to know which method will promote success of the student. I truly believe that getting to know the student is an important factor in the teaching/learning process.
As a member of the Long Island Language Teachers Association and a presenter at the Northeastern Conference for Foreign Language, I am able to keep my teaching methods current and explore new methods in the learning environment.
During the past five years, I have expanded my tutoring to the reading and writing portions of the SAT. Although I no longer tutor the SAT, my grammar and writing skills are exemplary. I participate yearly in Common Core curriculum writing and updating. My students are a reflection of my hard work and dedication as a large majority of them receive mastery level on the Foreign Language Association of Chairpersons & Supervisors (FLACS) exam.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I currently teach Common Core Spanish. In addition, I have written the curriculums for Common Core teaching in Spanish for Spanish III, SPANISH IV and Spanish V where I am currently employed.
I have been teaching and tutoring Regents level Spanish for more than 11 years. My mastery rate is more than 85%. Of those years, the failure rate has been under 2%.
