City College of New York (Applied Mathematics)
I have 4 years of tutoring experience. My goal is to always have a positive outcome and have a productive session. Whether it is just to prepare for an upcoming test or to improve grade over a period of time, I am the tutor for that.
I have tutored students from grade K-12. I tutor Math and Science. I have helped students improve their grade by over 15 points, prepare for the regents, SAT and SHSAT. I assess my students and then approach the problem with a strategy.
Each student has a different struggle. I believe all students are capable of improving and doing well if they get the right guidance. I love tutoring because it can help someone gain that confidence back in the subjects they aren't too comfortable about.
My experience with students of many ages and different struggle sets me apart from a lot of other tutors. I have always loved math and chemistry and my teaching style reflects it. My experience has helped me understand that not every student learns the same way, and because I know my subject so well, I can use different approaches to explain the same thing.
I am patient and understanding. I am very experienced and am always prepared. I make it my goal to make sure that my students are comfortable enough to ask me a question again and again if they don't understand it. I have 4 years of tutoring experience. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I tutor algebra 1 every year. I am currently tutoring 2 students and preparing them for the common core regents. I understand it very well and my experience and expertise helps me to be a better tutor for it.
Algebra 2/trig is a class that covers trigonometry identities and goes a bit more in depth of the algebraic concepts. It is a basic math class that I have tutored students for. I am helping students pass their regents exam for alg2/trig this year and have done it previously too.
I tutor Chemistry every year and also help them prepare for the regents. My students have had great success.
I have tutored geometry previously. I mostly prepared both my students for the geometry regents. I approach it by first assessing my students and see where they are and where they are struggling and then break down the lesson plan as per how often I am seeing my students in a week. I took geometry myself in HS and am familiar with how the course progresses.
Pre-algebra is one of the easiest math subjects to teach for a math tutor. I have tutored students for this before and have had great success. My approach to tutor Pre-algebra students is usually to first see how well their foundation is in math and correct that before getting into the current coursework.
I have prepared many students for math and Chemistry regents. I have tutored algebra, trig and geometry for regents prep. I am also currently tutoring students for these regents and all my students have always performed very well in the regents.
I have received extensive training of over 35 hours to tutor SAT math students. I am currently employed to tutor the new reformed SAT.
