Greetings!

I'm happy to help students develop as musicians; I teach with clarity and patience. I enjoy understanding the student learning process and helping strengthen whatever areas need to be strengthened so they can feel confident and comfortable in their studies.

I'm a composer, pianist, and teacher. I received a Master of Music and Master of Musical Arts Degree from the Yale School of Music in music composition. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Penn State University (Schreyer Honors College) where my focus was piano performance. I've taught music classes at the High School level (at an arts magnet High School in New Haven) and at the College Level (in the Yale Department of Music). I have close to 15 years experience teaching private piano lessons.

Wishing you all the best!

Music History

During the course of my BA, MM, and MMA degrees in music, I studied music history. During my time teaching at the college level, I incorporated music history into the music theory classes I taught. In my work as a piano teacher, I bring music history into the lesson when this helps to clarify stylistic choices in performance.

I was a music major at Penn State University. I graduated in 1999 with a BA in Music. My focus was piano performance. I performed three solo recitals while a student at Penn State. I also studied for three summers with the Head of the Bryn Mawr conservatory. I pursued additional piano instruction while I studied for my Master of Music degree in music composition from the Yale School of Music (I received my MM in 2005). I've been teaching piano since 2001.

Ear Training

I taught Ear-Training (Aural Skills) for two years in the Yale University Department of Music (2008-2010). Additionally, I taught AP music theory (which has a significant ear-training component) for three years at an arts magnet high school in New Haven, CT. I took a pedagogy of music theory/history course as a non-degree graduate student at Penn State University in 2003 -- this class included observation of ear-training classes and an ear-training teaching practicum with feedback from the professor -- a number of readings on ear-training pedagogy were also part of the curriculum.

I received a Master of Music and a Master of Musical Arts degree from the Yale School of Music in Music Composition. I taught ear-training (including sight singing) in the Yale Department of Music for two years. Additionally, I've also taught AP Music Theory at the high school level, where ear training and sight singing play a significant role in the class. I've taught sight singing courses more recently at the Long Island Conservatory of Music.
