About Christian

Hi, Christian here! Over the last four years, I’ve had the pleasure of taking my tutoring skills and developing specific approaches to meet each student’s individual needs, applying those methods to ensure the greatest possible academic success. One of my proudest moments as an instructor was watching as a third grade girl I mentored, went from phoneticizing new English words in her native language to recognizing English “building block syllables” and spelling out new words from there, using flash cards and spelling tests.
In another instance, I prepared a first grader for the years ahead by reducing his dependency on “finger counting,” showing him how to add and subtract “inside” instead, and teaching him how to count by twos and fives with the use of rhyme and recital. His strong inclination towards music made this approach a huge success.

Having come from an inner-city public school background myself, I’ve witnessed firsthand how children of all walks of life tend to struggle and are in need of academic guidance and support. Each circumstance is unique; be it students with middling grades, those who excel but shy away from class participation, or “problem cases” with untapped potential.

As an alum of Brooklyn Technical High School (2007) and a graduate of several advanced programs throughout my earlier years, I recognize that every child has their own strong suit. Unfortunately, these strengths often lie dormant and it is with the help of a mentor and positive reinforcement that they come to life. I tend to bring these traits to the forefront, building individual rapports with each student, forgoing a “one size fits all” approach in favor of one that plays to their talents. My ability to tap into that capacity for knowledge has led me to work with students from first to ninth grade in both English and Math, netting me a highly competitive tutoring position in California just last year.

Now back in New York and finishing up my BA at City College (with a Master's on the horizon), I’m eager to take on a new role in the field of education. In working with your child, I’d duly rise to the occasion and provide the consummate experience for parents and student alike. In my sessions, I'll provide my undivided attention and unyielding encouragement as I motivate your child towards the finish line and beyond with pop quizzes, games, worksheets - whatever it takes to drive the point home. I specialize in Algebra, Elementary Math & Science, English, Grammar, Handwriting, Phonics, Pre-algebra, Proofreading, Reading, Spelling, Study Skills, Vocabulary and Writing. Hope to hear from you soon. Let's work!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
