About Allen

With all the changes going on to the high school math curriculum and Regents exams, one of the most important things you need to find in a tutor is someone who is totally conversant with all these changes and is experienced In the current high school classroom.

I am currently a high school math teacher in a large comprehensive Queens High School. I have been teaching high school mathematics for 12 years. Courses I have taught include Integrated Algebra , Common Core Algebra 1, Geometry, Common Core Geometry, Algebra 2 and Trigonometry. In addition to teaching these classes, I have been involved with writing the Common Core Curriculum and corresponding lessons for my school, developing shared assesments and grading regents exams. Most of my lessons are on Powerpoint which I will be more than happy to share with my students.

While at my current school I was the Internship Coordinator and was a recipient of the Above and Beyond Award given by WABC TV in 2007.

I have also been teaching at Queensboro Community College for 8 years in their Kids College and 21st Century Learning Program. At Queensboro I have taught courses in: Algebra 1, Pre-Algebra, Specialized High School Test Prep, COOP Test Prep, HSST Test Prep, Hunter High School Test Prep and Math SAT Test Prep.

I also taught a course at Queensboro CC for the 21st Century Learning Centers in Introduction to College Algebra.

I have worked for several tutoring organizations and privately tutored high school students on a one to one basis. This is my 3rd year with WyzAnt where I have tutored over 800 hours. I worked this year with 8 different students in Algebra 1 CC and Geometry and they all passed the State Regents Exams. I had a 92 % passing rate on the regents in my common core geometry class.

I feel that my strengths are in communicating key math concepts, and an understanding of the specifics of both the curriculum and on the appropriate standardized tests. Additional strengths include making it relevant to outside interests especially business applications, and establishing a good working relationship with my students.

My educational background includes a BA in Economics from Queens College, a Master's in Business Administration from the University of Masachusetts, and a Master's in Math Education from Adelphi University. I have also completed the certificate program to be a School Administrators at CW Post.

Prior to becoming a teacher, I was a Wall Street Vice President for some major financial services organizations.

I am willing to travel to your home or to a library for tutoring. I am also comfortable doing online tutoring and could combine that with in person tutoring.
