##### About Eddy

My teaching philosophy is an old school approach. Using less PowerPoint and more chalk and blackboard. I believe in going back to techniques that have worked with so many previous generations. Students pay more attention when the topics are walked through step by step. Writing down material and constantly asking questions to make sure students understand every topic.

I have a degree in Applied Mathematics & Statistics. Students with this degree are constantly exposed to finite math. I have received tutoring for this material and now i want to be able to tutor. It is a difficult subject where many students struggle.

Another big part of my teaching philosophy is to add relevant and current event examples to the topic being taught. This makes students pay more attention and participate in class. At the end, the goal is to create a more comfortable and friendly environment in the classroom.

Classroom management and discipline are two very important components. As I mentioned before teachers have different students with different needs. Managing that aspect is key in being a successful educator. There has to be a set of rules so things do not get out of control. However, at the times kids have to be creative and need freedom to do what they do. In other words, finding the balance is difficult but it is possible. Rewarding good behavior plays an important role in my teaching approach.

When I was in 5th grade I had a really good math teacher, Rene Rodriguez, who inspire me to become a math teacher as well. Rodriguez’ lectures were funny and useful. Most of the basic math tricks I know today came from his lectures. At the age my passion for math and teaching began. All my classmates were after me looking for help. I did not mind I had the skills required to explain these topics to my friends. I would like to be same kind of inspiration for other young kids. Mathematics is not a popular subject among kids but if it is taught well it can be.
