My background is in literacy. I have taught reading and writing in elementary grades through the college level. I can teach any aspect of reading; decoding, phonics, vocabulary, comprehension. I also teach content area subjects such as ELA, Social Studies and Science. I have raised students' reading levels and have taught the writing process. I have also taught test prep; ELA, CMT, and the reading and writing sections of SAT and GRE.
I am a dedicated teacher who gets results because I truly love what I do and I have had lots of experience and many references. I am currently tutoring students from the first grade through college. I have an M.S. in Literacy Birth through grade 12, elementary education and special education grades 1-6. I currently teach high school English to special education students. Lisa has just started with us and my daughter really likes her! She seems very knowledgable and thorough and we're looking forward to continued lessons with her!
Lisa was timely for the session and got right to work with my daughter. By the end of the lesson, Lisa had developed a keen sense of where my daughter needed special help with and shared with us her plans for the next lesson. I am delighted with her!
She comes prepared. She puts in the extra time at home to make her lessons as productive as possible. Our daughter has made great progress under her tutoring. We are very pleased.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have an advanced certification in Special Education, Grades 1-6. I am currently working with special education students in 9th and 10th grade English. I tutor a 33 year old man with severe dyslexia, and am the mother of five sons; one with ADHD, another with ADD and one who is dyslexic.
I hold an M.S. In elementary education. I taught in elementary school for seven years. In addition, I have many elementary school students who I tutor.

I currently teach English to special needs students, and many of my tutoring clients have learning differences. I am also going to apply for my Special Education Certification, Grades 7 - 12 this spring.
