Hello, I'm Abby! Thank you for taking the time to come to my profile and learn more about me. I'm a third year student at Ohio University; currently I'm majoring in Spanish Education, minoring in Linguistics, and working towards a certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. As you could likely guess, two of my biggest passions lie in language and in teaching. I have been teaching since 2016 when I began my time as a Taekwondo instructor at my local dojang, and I earned my national certification as a peer tutor in the spring of 2018. I graduated from high school with an Advanced Regents diploma, and for this reason I feel confident in tutoring certain math- and science-related subjects.

I currently have my second degree black belt in Taekwondo, and in December of 2021 I will be testing for my third degree black belt. Taekwondo has been a passion of mine since I began my practice in 2011, even more since I earned my first degree black belt in 2014. My time teaching has increased my understanding and my love for the sport, and I'll likely continue my practice for the rest of my life.

During my time teaching, I've learned that to be an effective teacher, you must first be a good student. I take time out of every day to practice and hone my skills in areas like Spanish, Taekwondo, and creative writing, and for this reason I feel especially confident assisting others in doing the same. My goal with every student is to make them feel engaged and confident in the subject area; to me, learning is less about memorization and more about understanding. I want the students that I work with to feel capable of explaining the same material I teach to someone else.

There are several other experiences I've gone through that I don't necessarily have the space to explain here, but I selected each of my subject areas because I feel confident in my understanding and ability to convey that understanding to others. If there are any questions I can answer for you before we work together, please let me know!
