Hi. I hope this profile helps you to get a better picture of who I am. I am a high school social studies teacher, and I have been teaching for 13 years. I currently teach Global History 9 & 10, both mainstream and self-contained sections. I also teach resource room. I have taught English 9, as well as Economics and Participation in Government. I have been a tutor on and off all the years that I have been teaching. I love social studies because it truly is a "story."
I am proficient in Microsoft Word, Power Point, Google Docs, Slides, and Google Classroom. I think that technology can truly help with a student's understanding of the material in front of them.
I enjoy tutoring because I like having a one-on-one connection with a student, and getting to the bottom of the material which might be confusing to them. Being a teacher is a wonderful job.
I like to use strategies like mnemonic devices to remember words, and I also think it is important to make connections to everyday things in order to better understand words.
I like to use flashcards, visual aids, and graphic organizers to help students remember their spelling words, and also to help with their studying. I am also proficient in Wilson Reading which can help with spelling.
I am New York State certified in Special Education K-12. I have been teaching in special education classes for 13 years. I am familiar with IEPs, and understand the goals and objectives that are noted.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
