About Dylan

I am a 19-year-old Journalism major at St. John's University in Queens, NY, and I am originally from West Islip. I have been a tutor since 8th grade. I graduated in the top 20 of my class in high school, and earned a 2000 on the SAT exam. I am well-versed in various topics in English, Spanish, History, and Test Preparation. For me, the satisfaction in tutoring comes when a student comes to a lesson with a smile from ear-to-ear after earning a great grade on a test previously thought to be "impossible."

I am an active journalist published in multiple outlets. I have extensive knowledge of grammar and writing styles consistent with middle and high school coursework. I have received national awards based on my writing and ability to manipulate the English language.

I'm 19, so I'm definitely not one of those boring tutors that cannot connect with students! Contact me if you want to learn a lot and have fun doing it!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Baseball

I have played baseball since I was nine. I pitched, played the outfield, and manned first base. In addition to 10 years of experience playing, I have had the opportunity to coach at the little league level and assist with older age groups. My varsity baseball team was a state semi-finalist in 2014. I also write about baseball for multiple media outlets.

Drums

I was named to the All-State band my senior year as a timpanist. I was also captain of my high school drumline for three years, and the principal drummer in one of the top high school Jazz Bands in New York state. I served as section leader of the percussion section in a Wind Ensemble that earned the highest honors in New York State.

Music History

I took two years of music history in high school, where we took an in-depth look at each musical time period. I had one of the highest averages in the class, and gave several presentations on world music and music history in my school. I also tutored multiple students in music history in high school. I scored among the highest in my class on the exit exam.
