About Nicole

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for stopping by. I am a firm believer in motivating children with positive reinforcements (in and out of the classroom), which in turn adds to a child's overall confidence level across the board. To learn a little more about my background, please read below. Don't hesitate to contact me if you are interested in adding me as a tutor to your current support team for your child.

Personal Background:
Growing up, I was always helping my friends with homework assignments or projects or any school assignment as I did enjoy school and loved the challenge. In addition, I babysat and tutored for many children while I attended high school and all throughout college. As I became older, I started tutoring my friend’s siblings and later on their own children as well. I also tutor my nieces and nephews. I love seeing when a child finally gets a concept, then applies it, which builds their confidence and then develops an even bigger zest for learning. When I see a student struggling with a concept and I am able to use different techniques so that he/she will eventually get that concept that is a great feeling. Not only that, but I realize that it is important to keep a child’s confidence level up as that will eventually be affected when they are not able to grasp certain concepts at times.

I became a parent myself almost 6 years ago to an awesome boy. He is a medically fragile, special needs child so I am his biggest advocate when it comes to working with his teachers and therapists in ensuring that his goals are appropriate and are being met in school based on his abilities and needs. This makes me better able to relate to and work with students in general as I am more sensitive to the range of needs of any given child. I know how important it is to have your child be around individuals who they can relate to.

Professional Background:
I am a certified Teaching Assistant through New York State. I am a Substitute Special Education Teaching Assistant with the New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE). As a Substitute Teaching Assistant in the classroom, I employ patience and diligence with my assignments. My assignment have ranged from assisting teachers from Kindergarten to High School in mainstream classroom settings, to integrated, to special needs classrooms. As the environment of the assignments may change daily or weekly based on the needs of a given classroom or child, I have successfully adjusted to all environments. Whether I am a classroom Teaching Assistant or working one-on-one with students, my goal is always to give my best when working with educators, nurses and/or therapists to address the goals and needs of students with or without an Individual Education Plan(IEP).

I am a Nassau County (Long Island)/Part-Time Special Education Teaching Assistant responsible for working one-on-one or with small groups of students in grades 6 to 8 as indicated by Classroom Teachers. Help students stay on task. Help students with English and Language Arts (ELA), Math and general study skills as related to the Common Core Curriculum. Administer tests. Assist with day-to-day classroom tasks as indicated by Classroom Teacher. Assist students with developing good study habits, time management (especially with homework), test preparation, reading and essay writing.

If I am chosen to be your child's tutor, I will use my years of experience both in and outside the classroom to provide the support he or she may need.

Thank you for your time in advance!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
