About Lexi

I am currently in my third year of teaching in a local high school. I teach 9th grade World History and AP World History, United States History and have taught AP European History. I have a passion for teaching and strive to help students develop a love for learning. As a teacher I work to help students understand content in a way that relates to them as well as engage them in hands-on activities. I have developed games and strategies to help students remember historical content.

My minor was in English. I enjoy helping students find books that they would enjoy reading and use those to develop both reading skills and a love for reading.

I am a 9th Grade World History teacher and 11th Grade United States History Teacher. I am very good at teaching writing skills to aid in writing historical essays and DBQs. I love teaching writing in general as well, all the way from basic sentence composition to advance essays.

I have a Bachelors degree in History and Secondary Education and I am certified in the states of New York and Vermont. I also have my Masters in Special Education.

I have a love for teaching and working with students of all ages and enjoy finding ways to make learning fun. Please contact me with any questions about myself and I'd be happy to tell you more.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I have my Masters in Special Education and throughout my masters program I learned many strategies to help students with ADD and ADHD learn and succeed in the classroom. My final research dissertation focused on ADHD and the impact that teachers have on students with ADHD in the every day classroom. I have worked with many students with ADHD both in and out of classroom and enjoy helping them succeed.

American History

I have taught United States history for a few years and enjoy teaching the history of our country. I like making United States history relatable to students and helping them explore our ancestors' American Adventure. American history is all around us and I like to help students learn from the past to understand the presence.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I have my Masters in Special Education and learned many strategies to help students with Autism succeed. The classroom I taught in over the summer was compromised of many students with Autism in addition to students with other disabilities. I got to work with these students both at the individual level and in whole group sessions. I not only helped these students make academic progress but develop social skills that will continue to have a lasting impact on them.

Basketball

I played basketball for 11 years. I was playing on different teams year-round including AAU and attended multiple camps a year. I coached modified basketball last year and enjoyed teaching the fundamentals as well as bringing players to more advanced levels.

European History

I have had the honor to teach AP European history to seniors at my school. Not only did I develop a love for European history but also enjoyed helping these students develop a love for it as well. I find ways to make European history fun to learn and memorable as well.

Fitness

I love exercising and helping people discover their own strengths and abilities. I coached basketball and helped players get into shape. I love being encouraging and seeing the positive changes people can make not only in their fitness level but also in their state of mind by teaching them to be happy with who they are.

Reading

I have studied how to teach reading at both the regular and special education level. I enjoy seeing students progress with their reading skills and learn to enjoy reading. I believe reading is a foundational skill that help students improve in all aspects of school.

Regents

I teach 9th grade World History. Although there is no Regents at the end of 9th grade, the content I teach is on the World History Regents, which is taken in 10th grade. I prepare students for the Regents by teaching them necessary content and writing skills. I also aid in grading the Regents exams.

Social Studies

I was a history major and medieval studies minor in college. I have taught World History, AP World History, AP European History and United States History. I enjoy teaching how to write historical essays and finding creative ways to help students better understand content information.

Special Needs

I have worked with many students with special needs both in and out of the classroom. I have a Masters in Special Education and enjoy working with students with special needs. I have taught in a Special Education classroom and enjoyed differentiating my lessons to the wide range of learning abilities in my classroom.

Study Skills

I am currently certified in Education and History in addition to being certified in Special Education. While in these programs of studies I learned a vast amount of research-based study strategies to help students develop their study skills. I have had experience helping students develop these skills until the become masters of them and are able to generalize the skills to all subjects.

World History

I have taught World History for three years and have a love for history. I love teaching how the world has progressed and how we should learn from the history of our world. I have taught World History at both the regents and AP level.

Writing

I believe writing is one of the foundations of learning. To be able to express what you know, you must be able to write. I have studied how to teach writing in both regular education as well as special education and teach it on a regular basis in my own classroom.

Knowledgeable, patient and organized tutor

Lexi discussed current topics in global history; specifically fascism, Mussolini, and Hitler. She helped me organize charts and use time period tables to assist my studies. She reviewed our lesson by testing me at the end of the session to see how well I retained and understood the information.
