Steve Carver attended the Syracuse University School of Art, and received a BFA,with a major in sculpture and minors in photography and filmmaking .
He received an MS in Art Education from SUNY New Paltz. The concentration for his masters thesis was multimedia and digital art. Since age sixteen, he has worked with a camera and film and traditional
art materials, creating portraits, landscapes, figure studies, abstractions and
still-life images in the studio and out doors in nature. In 1993, he began his college teaching career and since has taught many college courses at Iona College and Dominican College in New York State and Bloomfield College, and Bergen Community College in New Jersey. Courses taught include photography, digital imaging, computer graphics and fine art.
In 1994, Stephen began working digitally, using a scanner to copy drawings,
photographs and paintings and further manipulating them digitally in the computer. By scanning traditional media art work and combining it with photographic images and processing it in PhotoShop and HDR, he is able to create a unique type of digital image, which has both the qualities photography and traditional art.
Carver's work is in the collections of Vanessa Gonzalez foundation, Helios Arts and Environmental Institute, and SUNY, New Paltz
He is Competent in the following programs: Adobe CC; Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere, Flash.He can also teach Final Cut Pro, Sound Track Pro, Quark Express, DreamWeaver.
He has a background in the fine arts, and studied the following subjects in college: Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, Photography and Film making. He has been teaching Photography, Digital Imaging and Computer Graphics, in college, for the last 20 years.
He is a sensitive and compassionate teacher, with much patience and much to offer. I give only positive positive suggestions and criticism and lead the student to discover his or her own path to creating work. I taught Adobe Flash animations as part of my college course curriculum. This involved using the automation tool for placing objects on a path and transforming them with scale, transparency and rotation. My students also created libraries of images to show repetitive movements such as walking and running. We also created slide shows of still images to make a flash presentation.
I taught InDesign as part of my college course curriculum. We created bifold two sided brochures, a 10 plus page article for a magazine with pictures, captions and body text, as well as newsletters for the college campus and master pages and templates for a book layout.
I have been a professional photographer for the last 25 years, photographing portraits and weddings, and doing commercial photography including: fashion, product and architectural photography. Photographic and design accounts include Orange and Rockland Utilities, Mid-Hudson Medical Psychotherapy Center, Brakewell Steel Fabricators, Zircar Products, Bristol Gifts, Diplomat Baby Products, Mechanical Rubber Products, Triumph Pet Foods, Lowes Home Center, Tauton Press, Radke Custom Homes, Grant Noren Designs, Innovation Concepts Inc, and LayMaxx Fashions. I am also interested in fine art photography and have exhibited in the Woodstock art association and other galleries in the area.
I have a background in film making and video production, haven taken 15 credit hours in this area in college. I have produced several documentary type videos and films, and have produced many wedding videos. I am proficient in Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro, and final Cut Express.
