I am in my 30s, and my love of English, writing, and teaching is what lead me to this site. I have an undergraduate degree from Western Connecticut State University in English & Creative Writing, and I also have a Master's in Secondary Education (7th-12th grade) from Mercy College. I also hold a New York State teaching certification. I have been working in the Carmel school system for over 4 years doing substitute teaching and also several 7th grade leave replacements. I have administered, and graded, both the 7th and 8th grade New York State ELA exams, so I am very familiar with both. I am comfortable teaching to a crowd, but I am also capable of teaching one-on-one. My student teaching experiences have allowed me to teach 8th grade English in Carmel, and following that I taught 10th grade English and 11th grade Honors at Yorktown High School.
I was a very shy student when I was growing up, so I found it very hard to ask questions in class and get the help I needed. I take those experiences with me, and I channel that into my teaching to assure that each of my students feel comfortable with the material in front of them. I work my hardest to use different methods of teaching for different students. I understand that not every student learns the same, and I am always prepared to tweak my methods. Study and organization skills are a big part of success, so I make sure each student exercises these. I will also work to strengthen these skills if they are found to be weak. Teaching is fun, so I make it a point to have fun when I teach. Most of all, I love having any student leave with a confidence that they can excel on their own.
Please feel free to ask me any questions you have about my credentials or experience. I am in my 30s, and my love of English, writing, and teaching is what lead me to this site. I have an undergraduate degree from Western Connecticut State University in English & Read more
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Cooking is a passion of mine. While I have no formal training in the culinary arts, I have an extensive knowledge of the subject. I started cooking at a very young age with my family, and from there I have branched out on my own. I am always researching new recipes, new methods, I constantly read cookbooks, and I am always observing other chefs while they cook or bake. My specialties are any kind of Italian cooking, and also many different kinds of baking. I am self-taught, and I do prepare meals and desserts for large parties as well as individuals. I would be happy to answer any questions you have pertaining to this.
I have a Masters Degree in Education, and I am a certified English teacher in grades 7-12. I wouldn't mind teaching the 5th or 6th grade curriculum. I am comfortable teaching anything from writing to classroom novels.
I am a certified English teacher with a Master's Degree in grades 7-12. I can adapt my teaching to meet the needs of any course work.
Literature is my favorite part of the ELA curriculum. I have taught many novels throughout my career, and I am comfortable teaching plot elements and any piece of figurative language. I will use the novels as a vehicle to help your child understand the many key factors needed to understand literature.
