For twenty years I was the Department chairman of Science at a High School in West Islip. In addition to supervising the department, I taught Regents Chemistry, honors chemistry and AP Chemistry, Regents and AP Biology, Anatomy/Physiology and Physics. I also taught college biology as an adjunct for St. Johns University.
I moved to Johns Hopkins University where I was an administrator and instructor in the Center for Talented Youth and taught college level Inorganic chemistry. While at Hopkins, I spent the summers of 2003, 2004 and 2005 as a consultant to the Ministry of Education of Singapore and worked on their college chemistry lab programs.
After a severe motor vehicle accident in 2005, I briefly retired but soon became bored. I spent 2008 as an instructor of chemistry at the American University in Cairo Egypt, but returned to the US when political unrest gripped the country. I was prepared to start teaching in a cultural exchange program in china but had a cardiac bypass operation in April of 2012 and was unable to go.
I currently tutor extensively in high school and college chemistry, high school and AP Physics, High school and AP Biology, Earth Science, Forensic Science, Astronomy, Anatomy/Physiology, AP Environmental Science and Marine Science. I have clearance to teach in New York State.
I am on the Admissions Board of my undergraduate Alma Mater, and interview local students applying for admission.
In addition to teaching, I have spent many summers as a US Park Ranger on Fire Island, Cape Cod and Grand Teton National Parks. Currently, I work part time as a Bay Constable in Port Jefferson and spend my winter weekends as an EMT for the National Ski Patrol.
I am married to an Assistant District Attorney and have two married children; a daughter who teaches High School math and a son who is a Paramedic.
I like to spice up my teaching with all my experiences traveling and my hobbies - my horses and exotic sports cars. For twenty years I was the Department chairman of Science at a High School in West Islip. Dr. Stephan was a wonderful tutor to help prepare my daughter for her upcoming quiz and other topics that she needed help with!
I would definitely request another lesson if my daughter feels she needs extra help!
Dr. Stephen W. is a rare individual who brings passion and a broad knowledge base to his tutoring sessions. He is relatable and result-oriented. He doesn't watch the clock, but rather is focused on results. My son and I are fortunate to have found him!
I have taught High School Biology including AP Biology and have also taught introductory Biology courses at both St. John's University and Johns Hopkins. My Ph.D. concentrated on the biochemistry of microorganisms.
