One of my favorite things to do is to help people learn and grow to whatever level they find desirable. After Chess, Psychotherapy and conversational Spanish are my primary fields of interest.
I currently teach chess at three Private schools, in Albany, Schenectady and Latham NY, At my office on 980 Western Ave, I do couples work, pirate Psychological counseling, and Chess Coaching. Every curriculum I work at is specialized to the individual, couple, or group's needs. Wherever you, your partner or child are in the continuum of development, I'd like to be there to help turn to the next page, round the next corner, or advance to the higher ground.
My most recent accomplishment in chess is winning the NY State Chess Championship (U1500), and taking 2nd Place in the NY State Open (U1610). Additionally, I've been made Editor of a chess website and have three summer Chess school gigs for 2016. Finally, I am currently, but slowly, teaching my own 5 year old son the great game of chess.
For Psychology, I am licensed in California and New York. The credential for both states is called a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist or LMFT. This license requires a Masters Degree, thousands of hours of supervised work experience, and passing one or more marathon exams. I've accomplished this in both states, separately, and keep both my licenses updated and current.
For speaking in Spanish, I learned the language in Costa Rica, Seville, Spain, Mexico, Guatemala, California, El Salvador and Honduras. As with any language, learning is a constant and ever-present skill to be developed. My background is well rounded and flexible in terms of creating understanding where language or special needs are to be considered.
Thank you for your time and interest in these areas. Let me know if you find that our interests overlap and if you would like to gain a deeper understanding in areas where I have invested much of my life, for the better. . My 9 year old son enjoyed chess lesson thoroughly. He said he learned a lot in one lesson. Really looking forward to next session. Thank you.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have trained in Okinawan Karate and Kung-fu since 14 years of age. I studied Kenpo Karate and Ju-Jitsu in Costa Rica in the 1990s. I trained people in boxing (the best way to get good fast!) and am familiar with safety and handling of many martial art weapons including the tonfa, sai, nunchaku, staff and more. I competed in Friday night fights at Crunch gym in 2000. I use focus pads, good gloves, wraps, a water bag and a double-ended striking ball.
I graduated in 2008 with a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology. I am a licensed psychotherapist in both California and New York.
I lived in Costa Rica for nine months, teaching at a private Catholic School. My last semester of undergraduate school was spent in Sevilla, Spain. I lived in California for many years, with occasion to practice conversational Spanish.
