I have strong teaching experience with computer skills (introductory, Microsoft Office, hardware and operating systems, Internet, etc. at all skill levels, in industry and higher education. Plus technical writing and AutoCAD, math tutoring, and assisting college-level English-as-a-second-language students with report writing and study skills. I have also helped many people learn about computers and the Internet. For those of you wishing to improve specific computer skills, I have experience with many major software packages -- feel free to ask me about specific computer topics!
My teaching style is fairly informal and personalized. I am willing to work with you on what you feel you need the most help with, and I am a firm believer in diagnostic feedback -- if you get stuck, I'll help you figure out what's wrong and how to fix it.
My educational background includes a BS in mechanical engineering, a MS in Information Technology, and an MS in Information Management. I have extensive industry work experience as well, and can provide references on request.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I hope to hear from you soon! Hello,

Susan R. did a great job of explaining and getting me through a lot of beginning material. She was patient and insightful and willing to listen to my questions and work with me to get to answers. I look forward to the next session. I am amazed at how much Susan knows and how well she teaches.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have used various CAD and drawing packages for years at home, at school, and in industry, including AutoCAD, TurboCAD, CorelDraw, Illustrator, Plasma 3D, and others. My specific AutoCAD experience includes three years of teaching basic and advanced AutoCAD skills to unemployed adults at a local vocational school in a 250-hour course. I taught a wide range of students -- from novices who had never even used a computer before to engineers and construction industry experts looking to improve their CAD design skills. I've also used several CAD packages in industry for graphic design and technical illustration.
I enjoy taking a creative approach to teaching AutoCAD, and am familiar with multiple topical areas. I've worked with just about every type of engineer there is -- mechanical, electrical, chemical, computer/software, nuclear, civil/structural...as well as construction workers, swimming pool designers, carpenters, technical writers, graphic artists, landscape designers, and fashion designers. So I have the background to help you understand how CAD skills can apply to your career interests! If you're struggling with CAD concepts and visualization, I can help with that too. For example, working with coordinate systems, setting up perspective views, or making the transition from 2D to 3D drafting and design.
One of the first things I started doing after I learned how to use a computer was to teach other people how to use a computer. If you need help with general computing skills - using Windows, the Internet, basic word processing or image editing, file management, specific software packages -- just ask me. I've used far too much software to be able to list everything here, but there's a good chance I have experience with what you're interested in.
In industry I've taught people how to use computers (starting from turning the computer on), how to use a variety of business software, search on the Internet, install and set up software, upgrade or install operating systems, back up files, edit photographs, set up a printer, upgrade their computer (I've built three computers of my own from scratch), and just understand more about how their computer works. I have a lot more experience with PCs than with Macs, but may be able to help with some Mac issues as well. So go ahead and ask me about whatever you're interested in -- I'd like to help!
