About Diana

I have been tutoring a variety of students for over 15 years. I graduated Molloy College, Cum Laude, with a BA degree in sociology and education. I tutored for the Sociology department and the English department. I tutored students in Sociology 101 and English writing. After graduating college I began teaching in my own classroom and started to tutor part time. I enjoyed the one-on-one interaction with students so much I changed direction in my education career and became a full time instructor for Sylvan Learning Center. My skills were aimed at beginning and academic reading skills, math essentials through grade 11, SAT/ACT prep, and study skills. After several years at Sylvan Learning Center I started my own private tutoring company. For the first five years I had my own students and also branched out where I hired teachers into my company to work with additional students. I would plan lessons and guide the teachers with their students' needs. The past five years I have grown my business and have taken the full roll as tutor for my students. This has enabled me to track the progress for my students by me being the tutor and able to enrich and grow their skills under my guidance. I have increased to over 20 students, through parent referrals and have truly enjoyed every student interaction.

My experiences in and out of the classroom have been both rewarding for both my students and I. Tutoring is a phenomenal way to reach individual students and use their strengths to help them progress in many educationally challenging situations. Tutors and students often work together through dedication and the desire to reach success in any given subject, test or study skill. I love to tutor and have seen the rate of my students success with their grade levels and confidence levels soar. The enrichment of my students has always been so important to me and nothing means more to me than to see a students confidence level improve as well as observing their interest in the relevance of their education to the real world.

My specialties as a tutor are in Mathematics, English Language Arts, Writing,NYS Regents, Common Core, and Study Skills. I have always offered my students a reward system and persuade them to set a goal with each and every session, both long term and short term goals. I have always dedicated myself to each student and try to be as flexible as possible with the many busy schedules of all students.

I offer the convenience of a quiet office in my home, and will travel to a student if it is more convenient. I will request feedback from both student and parent so that I know that we are all satisfied with our sessions and of course making every moment of each session beneficial and successful for each and every student. Obtaining our goals as student and tutor is very important to not only individual sessions but also for the success of each student. It will give us a mission and it proves to boost confidence levels as they see their goals come into reality, through test scores, grade levels and a rising confidence level for their education.

Every student will work with me on many different skills, however each one will be assessed throughout until the skill has been mastered before moving on. Parent involvement is also pertinent to our success and each parent will receive a progress report to show all goals set and skills covered.
I look forward to hearing from you being a part you, and/ or your students enrichment, success and education!!!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a teaching degree in education K-6 and I have over 15 years' experience tutoring. I tutored college level Sociology 101, and writing at the beginning of my tutoring experiences. I then tutored for Sylvan Learning Center and got my formal training in subjects ranging from K-11 elementary, middle school and high school math, algebra 1&2, SAT prep, Regents prep, beginning reading & writing, and study skills. I then began my own tutoring business and have tutored over 30 children throughout the past 10 years. I love to tutor children and have worked with many of my students beginning in kindergarten and stayed with them through their education career in all subject areas. My private business has grown through referrals only and has consisted of students of various ages, subject areas, and grade levels.

Study Skills

I have been tutoring study skills for more than 15 years. I was a tutor for Sylvan Learning Center and was trained in the a subject area of study skills and note taking skills. I also use it in my private tutoring daily because it is an important part of each and ever lesson. I incorporate study skills by having my students understand their own learning methods and ways that they can apply study skills on a daily basis, independently. I have taught many students a variety of study skills. I have taught study skills with students from grade kindergarten through college level.Study skills are the most important educational priority which are very individualized skills, that are often not taught but expected to be known. Each student must study based upon the type of learner that they are in order for it to be a success, for example an auditory learner may not benefit from index cards only. This very independent skill takes personal responsibility and must be taught. A student must learn the ability to organize, time management, note taking skills, use of resources;when reading using SQ3R, KWL, the Cornell methods are all very beneficial, test taking skills, and so many different exercise in concentration and daily ways to study are all so important to study skills. Study skills are also very subject based and may require different methods per subject, such as math and the ability to evaluate equations, in contrast to word problem solving strategies. Study skills are the key to success.

He loves seeing you

Riley really loves coming to see you and he's definitely feeling more confident with math. It's great to read your review and hear that he says things like "that's it? Are you kidding me?", because we've known for a while that he tends to make things more difficult than he need to. We are both happy that you're able to articulate the work in a way that makes more sense to him. Thanks again!
