I have been a high school science teacher for 12 years specializing in general, Earth, and space science, and in test preparation for the New York State Regent's exam. I love what I do; however, I would like more opportunity to help students on a one-on-one basis. Every child needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, and socially. My role as an educator is to help students meet their fullest potential by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and encourages collaboration of ideas. There is nothing better than seeing a child who is struggling with something suddenly come to understand.
Tutoring will provide me a multitude of opportunities for continual learning and growth. One of my desires as an educator is to instill a love of learning in my students, as I share my own passion for learning with them. I feel there is a need for compassionate, strong, and dedicated individuals who are excited about working with children. In our competitive society it is important for students to receive a solid education. Perhaps even more critical to their development though is working with someone who is aware of and sensitive to their individual needs. I am such a person and will always strive to be the best educator that I can be.
I always try to emphasize with my students that the key to success is organization and communication. I back this up using myself as a real-world example. I am very organized, which I believe has allowed me to be as successful as I have been. I consistently have over 90% of my students pass the Regent's exam, with over 50% scoring at the 85% mastery level. Parent and teacher communication is crucial to maintaining positive relationships. I give regular progress reports to both my students and their parents.
I look forward to working with you. My hope is that I can help increase the academic success you deserve. I am willing to be flexible on rate on case by case basis.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
While I am not an algebra teacher, I use algebra in my Earth Science classes practically every day. Much of what we do involves the use of mathematical modeling to explain natural phenomena.
I took the ASVAB in 1995, scored exceptionally well, and then spent 3 years on active duty in the army before going to graduate school to become a teacher. The test involves a variety of subjects that you must be proficient in to be successful.
I am currently a NYS certified Earth Science teacher for 7th through 12th grade. I have 12 years of experience helping students prepare for culminating exams in high school. A large portion of my curriculum involves the use of models to help explain natural phenomenon. These models are created with the extensive use of mathematics.
I use all Microsoft products in my classroom. In all my classes, we used Publisher to make flyers, brochures, and tri-folds to create projects. For example, students create a tri-fold brochure of the three different rock types which I use during my open house meetings with parents.
My background is in Wildlife Ecology, however, I really enjoy the physical sciences much more. I am NYS certified in 7th through 12th grade Earth Science.
I am a 7th through 12th grade certified NYS Earth Science teacher. I have a Master's degree in Education from the State University of New York, College at Oswego. I have been teaching Regents Earth Science at the high school level for 12 years. I have also been teaching an Honors level Earth Science course for the last 7 years.
I have been a NYS Certified Earth Science teacher for 12 years. Part of my curriculum is helping students prepare for both the written and the performance portion of the Regent's exam. I am particularly proud of moments when I help students who have a high level of test anxiety learn various relaxation techniques. These techniques have been proven to help students become more successful.
