About Zayyan

I am currently a college sophomore studying mechanical engineering. For me being able to get through, academically, to a student in itself is rewarding. I have a lot of experience working alongside students who needed assistance in their course material. My favorite part about working with the student is at the end when you can see on their face that they actually do understand what they have been working at.

Call me an idealist, but I think that everyone has the ability to achieve their academic goals if they actually strive towards them. It’s just that some people need more help than others, and that’s where I come in. One-on-one tutoring is beneficial for the student, in my opinion, because it allows the tutor to understand the student’s personality enough to grasp their learning style. I think that I can help students surpass their academic goals by improving their grades and their learning abilities.

I can teach from the elementary level through high school level. As gleaned from my header, I specialize in math. You don’t usually hear this, but math has been my favorite subject since I learned the multiplication tables. My love of math is one of the reasons I chose an engineering major in college. To me, a math equation is just a weird looking puzzle and we are all just kids at heart when it comes to puzzles. I think math is an amazing subject because it challenges and awakens the minds of students. The most asked question in just about every one of my math classes was: When am I ever going to use this in real life? And even though it may not seem like it, we use math just about every day. Learning the basics can be just as important as learning the surface area of a cube. I would prefer to tutor students who need help with elementary math, ACT and SAT math, differential equations, precalculus, and calculus 1.

As for my experience, I have volunteered as a tutor all throughout my high school career. In my senior year of high school, I took AP Calculus, aka one of the hardest math classes a high school student may experience, and I received a 5 on the AP test. Many of my high school math teachers would come to me and ask if I would help their students who were falling behind catch up. I helped solidify certain topics with students who needed some clarification and I helped raise grades on tests for many people who sought my help.

I have experience working with people that are of my age and younger. In the past, I have taught students from ages 10 to 18 and all can say that I helped improve their scores on tests. I believe I can help students reach their academic goals and get them back on track if they are indeed falling behind on course material.

My favorite part about being a tutor is the satisfaction I can instill in my students when they finally grasp the topic they were struggling with. Math can be very difficult and when you see the students mood change because they now know what was ailing them academically it makes the job so worthwhile. They go from furrowed brow to calm excitement.

I am available on all weekends and many days during the week. So, if you want help achieving your academic goals, please feel free to contact me. Thank you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I took the ACT twice in my senior year of high school and got a 28 and 32 on the math section, respectively. I have also tutored some friends and family members in the math section of both the SAT and ACT in the past.

SAT Math

In my junior and senior years of high school, I took the SAT three times and received an overall score of a 1710. I also took the ACT and received a 32 as my final score. Additionally, I have helped both friends and family members study for the math section of both tests and they all noticed an increase in their overall score.
