I have a degree in History from Kent State University and nine years of teaching experience. My degree in history and real world experience in the public schools can give your child an edge during the school year. I am an industrious teacher with a passion for teaching. A great teacher should be enthusiastic about their profession, have in-depth knowledge of their subject content, and constantly learning, as a "life-long-learner". These are the qualities I embody as an educator and instill into my students. I have wide experience teaching students with different ability levels and socio-economic backgrounds. I am especially proud to have taught at two of the top schools in North Carolina and developed curriculum there that engaged my students.
I have also developed curriculum and lesson plans that reflect the new national education standards. The new Common Core Standards, stress building knowledge, reading and writing, and regular practice with complex texts. These goals are also echoed in the individual State Essential Standards as well. They specifically state, "Students should not just learn history, but 'learn from' history". My students develop higher order skills in line with the new common core such as inference, analysis, and synthesis while working with content from the subject standards. Through the proper implementation of these standards, my students begin to evaluate their own thinking while learning factual content and begin to grow intellectually. I have received accolades from colleagues and administrators that describe my "enthusiasm for my profession", serious commitment to my students", "unique gift for presentation" and lastly "an ability to connect with others that is truly exceptional". Many of my classroom activities have been showcased in local newspapers. I believe in a multi-sensory approach to learning that reaches all types students.
If you are looking for a truly unique educator who personifies excellence in education and is passionate about student learning, then please contact me at your earliest convenience. I look forward to discussing how I can help your child succeed in school and develop skills that will last a lifetime.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a degree in History from Kent State and have successfully taught Government and Politics in the public schools.
In my teaching technique, I use text analysis to help students target the main idea of a text. In Socratic seminars, my students learn skills that help them with reading comprehension and reading retention. Close reading and annotating help students better understand the text.
