About Regina

I have been tutoring and teaching college and adult students since 2008, and have worked with students of many different skill levels and areas of focus on writing and language skills.

I am excited to meet new students who I can work with to improve writing and language skills in English and French. I also enjoy working with students of many different fields to improve their grammar, research skills, and organizational writing practices.

I am a PhD candidate in Comparative Literature, working on my dissertation while working part-time. I work with language (English and French) on a daily basis, and reading, writing, and language are my passions.

I majored in French as an undergraduate, and use French every day as a PhD candidate who studies literature. I have also tutored both the French language and French essay-writing, so I am familiar with challenges students face in beginning through advanced levels of the language.

I tutored writing for two years in a writing center, where I learned many ways to address writing challenges and develop a personal plan to improve writing skills. I also worked as an instructor in literature classes for two years, helping students through the essay writing process and grading papers, which gives me special insight into the kinds of challenges students face in writing persuasive essays.

I've worked with students of many different ages, interests, and strengths, and my favorite thing about teaching is getting to know a new student and work with with each student's individual strengths and challenges. I look forward to working with you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

I was trained as a writing tutor, and have two years of experience working in a writing center. I have an MA in Comparative Literature, which requires extensive work in language study, writing, reading, and translation. I am currently writing a dissertation for a PhD in Comparative Literature, and I work with the English language every day.

French

I have worked in French continuously since I began studying it 16 years ago. I earned honors in my French major when I graduated with my BA, and I completed work in French translation as a part of earning my MA. I also studied in France, where I earned the qualifications necessary to enroll as a student in French schools in any subject. I have experience tutoring beginning French students as well as advanced students working on composing essays in French for college courses.

Literature

I have studied literature intensively for my entire adult life. I have an undergraduate degree in Classics and French, but I also completed college coursework in German and English literature. I have a master's degree in Comparative Literature, and I am currently writing for a PhD. I have two years experience of teaching literature and grading literature papers, in topics from early modern mythology and the bible to twenty-first century graphic novels.

Proofreading

I was trained in proofreading techniques as a tutor in a writing center. I instructed students in these techniques as a tutor for two years, helping students from many different majors and at a wide range of skill levels. I continue to proofread documents for colleagues on a regular basis in my day job.

Writing

I was trained as a writing tutor, and have two years of experience working in a writing center. I tutored students in writing for all kinds of courses: political science, engineering, and English courses. I also helped students with applications for special programs and terms abroad.

Regina helped me with the use of the product “Endnote” used for accessing references in my writing. She not only has a command of writing, but also of the tools used for storing and accessing articles for future referencing. Regina is also knowledgeable of the different writing formats used at different levels of education. She has a pleasant demeanor and is easy to work with. I would recommend h
