Hi, my name is Alex! I am currently a 5th year PhD student. As a graduate student, I have spent time as a teaching assistant for Physics 1, Physics 2, and an upper level calculus-based mechanics course. As a teaching assistant, I was responsible for holding office hours where I would work through problems problems with students individually, and additionally held review sessions for up to 40 students.

Throughout my time, I have found that students often would struggle with physics and math due to lack of confidence often caused by either the fast paced nature of these courses or terminology that can be difficult to hold on to. As I spent more time teaching, I found that the most effective teaching method was to try and slow the material down a bit, and make sure students had a good fundamental understanding of what physically was going on. After getting a better physical understanding, students would then have an easier time introducing the math portion of the problems.

Since transitioning full-time to research, I have had the desire to get back into teaching in some way and continue helping students feel confident about the material. From previous experience, I have found tutoring sessions to be most effective and time-efficient if students send any material or a list of topics they wish to go over to make for the best use of time.
