Mount Holyoke College (Russian Studies)
Hi there! My name is Betty and I'm a recent grad from Mount Holyoke College. While in school, I studied Russian and had opportunities to travel the world. What has that taught me? That language and education are empowering! I hope to pass on this love of wisdom through to fellow students.
My goal is to help students who want to study beginner and intermediate level Russian, and English as a second language. A session with me could consist of conversation practice, exercises in grammar and vocabulary, and would not be complete without Chai. Lessons are challenging and practical- sometimes even fun. I will give a progress report, and I also expect feedback from the student.
I can travel up to 30 miles from Hadley, MA for a lesson, and lessons can either be held at a student's house or at a library if that is preferable.
I look forward to hearing from you and you and expanding your language horizons!
I am currently training for a TESOL certificate, which I expect to receive by July 1st. I have experience with teaching students of English as a foreign language from tutoring. One student was studying to pass the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) and was successful. Another group needed professional English for business presentations. I also spent time holding conversation hours at the SPCLA (Saint Petersburg College of Liberal Arts) for students of English.
I have been studying the Russian language for 12 years. I hold a B.A. in Russian and Eurasian studies. While in college, I was a Q & A mentor for Russian, which meant that I held weekly hours for students of Russian to practice through exercises and conversation.
My schedule is open Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., although I am flexible to the student. I have a 5-hour cancellation policy.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
