About Joseph

I am currently an advanced honors student in my senior year at the University at Buffalo. My enthusiasm for my field has driven me to go beyond the classroom. With experience in multiple research projects including the design and construction of a molecular Nitrogen laser, I am also a research assistant at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab) for the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) group working on detector components for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). I've excelled in Classical Mechanics, E&M, Special Relativity, Thermodynamics, and Wave Mechanics (light, mechanical, and matter), all of which I have experience tutoring.

My experience in the field of CS comes from my academic program, as well as my job. A program in computational physics is a union of the field of Computer Science and Physics, offering me extensive knowledge in both fields. I am also a TA for introductory computer science for spring 2017. On top of being a Research Assistant, I'm currently an applications programmer.

As a tutor, my goal is to help students understand the material so they're fully capable of doing well on tests, as well as spreading the same enthusiasm for my field that pushed me into it. Both Physics and CS are rewarding subjects, and I aim to reduce the frustration often times associated with them. I work with students not just to get through the problem right in front of them, but to understand the problem and reach a level where they can see all of the underlying intricacies and apply their knowledge to solve any similar problems they may face in the future.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Calculus

I am an Applied Mathematics major and have received As in University Calculus 1-3

Java

I'm a computational physics student in my senior year at SUNY Buffalo. On top of research, I work as an applications developer for a company called AIWarrior.

Physics

I have experience tutoring physics for the University at Buffalo Physics department. I have excelled in all of my physics classes including classical mechanics, quantum mechanics, E&M, and Wave Mechanics. Aside from course work, I'm currently working on my honors thesis involving measuring the mass of collision products called Jets in the CMS Detector at CERN.

Python

As a computational physics student I have classroom experience in python. I also do research in High Energy Physics where the analysis code often heavily, or primarily, utilizes python.

Trigonometry

As a physics major I use trigonometry in all of my classes. I am also an applied mathematics major and have years of experience.
