I love teaching. My goal is to help students to reach their highest potential. I believe that anyone can learn. My experiences include teaching in elementary school settings and in high school settings.
As an elementary school teacher, I have a permanent NY State certification in elementary education. I have taught 3rd and 4th grade full time in a private school setting. I love teaching phonics, reading, math, and social studies. In math, I like to use visual tools and manipulatives to help students understand the concepts. In reading, I prefer the phonics and the bottom-up method to help students understand the basic concepts of reading. I am also very passionate about social studies. I love American history and would love to help in this area as well.
I am also certified as a German teacher. As a native German speaker, I have a good knowledge of the German language and the German culture. Additionally, I have gained experience as a German high school teacher when I taught one year at the Kenmore West High School two German level 2 Comprehensive Regents classes. There I learned creative methods and ideas from my brilliant colleagues. I also worked for two years at the Williamsville North High School teaching German level 2 and German level 4 classes and gained valuable insights into how to create a fun and productive learning environment from another colleague. In addition to attending foreign language graduate courses at UB, and workshops in the Williamsville School district to develop my skills as a foreign language teacher. I also gained experience as a middle school and high school German teacher in the Lake Shore Central School District, where I am employed currently part time teaching Regents German classes.
As part of my philosophy of teaching German, I believe that the students should be immersed into the language and culture as much as possible through cultural artifacts, songs, videos, pictures and hands-on activities. Each class should also include an aspect of input, such as a reading, vocabulary or grammar lesson as well as an aspect of output in the form of speaking or writing to practice what was learned. The lessons should be interactive, engaging and fun to include all types of learners. The students should feel safe and accepted in a nurturing, well organized and well managed classroom environment. Jamoni confidence is very strong when reading with help from Mrs Anne. He did great in 1st grade and he is now completely on track. We look forward to seeing Mrs Anne in September, rather stay ahead then fall behind. Reading is key, thanks for being a great tutor.
She assessed my level of German ability and was, I think, very accurate. She offered materials to work with that will help build my vocabulary. And was very supportive in my attempts to communicate with her in German. So, already, my German has improved somewhat and I'm excited about meeting with her again.
Anne is a great tutor and a lovely person. You cannot go wrong by hiring Anne. She is punctual, serious about her job, fun to be around, flexible with respect to her student's desired course structure and abilities, and extremely knowledgeable about the German language. I plan on continuing with Anne for quite some time, and you should too!
Anne D. is not just a native speaker, but a highly trained teacher of the German language. She has a dynamic and engaging teaching style and is always willing to adapt herself to the needs of the student. In my own case, I mostly wanted to focus on conversation and so for the most part we just talked about everything and anything. She was always patient with my halting, Jeff-Bridges-Starman speaking style and only finished my sentences for me after letting me make the effort to do so myself. I had a lot of fun and learned a great deal by working with her. I recommend her highly!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a permanent NY State Certification for grades K-6. I have taught all subjects in a third and forth grade combined class at a private school. I have also substituted in elementary schools off and on since 2003 and taught all subjects associated with elementary education.
I would like to add ESL/ESOL to my subjects. I have experience teaching a foreign language to English speaking students in NY State high schools. Additionally, I volunteered teaching adults from Liberia how to read English. I also have learned English as a second language myself and have a good idea what it takes to learn English. I would like to help people who are struggling with the English language.
I am a native German speaker and a part-time German teacher at Williamsville North High School. Currently, I have a NY State Certification to teach German. I know the German language and culture well and I feel passionate about teaching German to anyone who wants to learn it.
Reading is a special passion of mine. Reading opens up a whole new world for children as well as adults. It is the foundation of all learning. I would love to help your child develop strong reading skills based on the phonics method.
