Hello, I’m Bryan. I am a current graduate student at CUNY Hunter College, in my last semester finishing up a Masters in Applied Math and Statistics. I also teach statistics as an adjunct lecturer at Hunter College. Although I relish diving into data, I gain the utmost satisfaction when I am able to help expound material to students or anyone yearning to learn. Contrasting recent trends of athletes, actors/actresses and musicians being role models for the youth, my role model was my former mentor and professor at my two-year undergraduate transfer college. He was not only able to coherently break down material effectively for everyone, but also infuse his immense passion for math into the learning as well. Likewise, I strive to mimic my mentor and create learning environments that produce lasting impressions on students.

I first started tutoring during my time at my two-year college. Working at the tutoring center, I quickly discovered I have a strong predilection for teaching. I tutored various levels of math, statistics, and physics while there, working in groups or individually with students. After I transferred to Stony Brook University and graduated with a Bachelors in Applied Math and Statistics, I returned to the center and continued to help expound material to students. Eventually, I was able to manage a classroom on my own, motivating my students to cultivate their own learning interests and critical thinking, while at the same time adapting my teaching to suit their learning abilities.

My years of experience have taught me that one of the most pivotal facets to ensure a student is comfortable and reaches their utmost potential is communication, and being able to adapt clear and approachable communication is a key element for a student’s success. To help achieve this, I devise lesson plans that are flexible, as the flexibility permits the lesson to be acclimatized to the student and not the other way around. The beauty yet challenge of teaching is no one student is the same, and one must always consider the interconnection between the student’s own knowledge, culture and learning abilities, and the subject at hand. I like to apply math to real world situations to allow my students to fully understand the relevance and necessity of knowing and using math in their everyday lives.

Math can come off as a little antagonist, but with the right support, encouragement and guidance, anyone can overcome this false narrative. I am eager to be that guide. Feel free to contact me about any questions you may have. I look forward to working with you to and helping you reach your goals.
