Writing

I am experienced helping to write research papers (college, grad school, upper high school), and I can help you with organizing your thoughts and building up your argument in your papers: outline, introduction, methods & results (in the case of a research paper), literature review, discussion, abstract, and references. Plus, I can help you with sharpening up your prose, grammar and word choice, improving clarity, making the story flow, and making sure you leave no loose ends. I am a biologist, but I have helped with papers in other fields including engineering and the social sciences. Because writing can take time, for a multi-hour assignment requiring only one car or subway trip, I take the price down. Email me for details. Thank you for your interest.

Science

ACT Science,

ACT Science

The ACT Science test evaluates scientific reasoning skills and comprehension. In graduate school (biology) I took a reading course individually with a professor, where you had to explain every diagram in a tall stack of scientific papers. Analyzing scientific information relies on understanding graphical representations of data, logic and critical thinking. I can explain the concepts clearly and help students spot key points and inconsistencies. I have 2 Master's degrees in Genetics, Molecular, Cell and Developmental biology, and did lab research for many years.
Biochemistry,

Biochemistry

Tine is a biologist with two Master's Degrees and years of experience tutoring biochemistry and other college biology subjects. She can help you understand the processes and interconnectedness of metabolic pathways in such a way that they become much easier to study for your grade. She covers synthesis, breakdown, structure and function of amino acids, nucleic acids, carbohydrates and lipids, along with their regulation and physiological significance.

Genetics,

Genetics

With a Master's in Genetics from Yale and one in Molecolar, Cell and Developmental Biology from CUNY, plus years of research in Drosophila genetics and genomics, I am well-equipped to help students with any topic in genetics. From basics such as pedigree analysis, Punnett squares, dominant/recessive alleles, to experimental design, gene mapping, recombination, gene regulation, genomics, transgenes, development, and population genetics.
Zoology,

Zoology

With my background in general biology, organismal biology, genetics, evolution, and systematics, I can help students with their coursework in zoology at the college level. I have done research, graduate coursework and had Teaching assistant work in molecular systematics, invertebrate paleontology, diversity of life, human molecular evolution and speciation genetics.

MCAT

MCAT

As a tutor specialized in college/pre-med level biology topics, and as a biologist with a thorough knowledge of all the subtopics covered on the MCAT (biochem, molecular, cell, genetics, physiology and biomedical research), I am well placed to help you prepare for the MCAT. I propose that the student complete a few practice tests, and determine which modules need the most attention. We will cover those first, with the aid of a textbook, MCAT review materials, excellent diagrams and high-tech study aids. To ascertain progress, we turn frequently to more practice questions, until the student is confident of his/her desired score.

Great tutor, quick response!

She was able to quickly pinpoint my son's needs in his Biology work and address them to his satisfaction, which is saying a lot! He’s tried others in the past.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Tine has a lot of knowledge. My goal was to bring up my grade in human genetics. Tine worked with me chapter by chapter. She had patience with me when I was overwhelmed. Thanks Tine!

Knowledgeable

Tine helped my daughter with many aspects of AP Biology in a brief hour and a half session. My daughter finally understood what was going on in class through Tine's explanations and questions. She knew a lot about the topics and could answer every question that my daughter had.

Best Help I've Received in Advanced Biology Course!

Tine has been helping me as a Biology major in my last year taking an advanced undergraduate course on the analysis of scientific literature which combines the course material of Biotechnology, Genetics, Microbiology, and Biochemistry. She helped me understand experimental design and lab techniques that before I could not organize or make sense of. By far, Tine is one of the best Biologists I have come into contact with making my experience with Bio a pleasure and much more manageable. She is very patient and understanding. She keeps going until you understand it. I was definitely going to drop the class that I was taking prior to Tine but with Tine, I know that this semester I will succeed as I have so far. Thanks Tine!

Wonderful!!

Tine responded right away and worked above and beyond to help my son with his Biology. She was patient and extremely knowledgable. Most of all she helped him gain back some confidence in Biology again. Would highly recommend!

Patient & Knowledgeable

Tine was able to show me how to do both two and three point recombinations, how to compare and find the middle gene and how to make a gene map after. We also went over how to read a complementation chart in order to determine how to restore a wildtype.

Excellent Tutor!

Tina took a personal interest in my daughter and helped her to set realistic goals that motivated her to do her very best. Tina also has many great qualities that make her a great tutor. She has patience, is reliable, punctual, dedicated and responsible. She is very knowledgeable and was able to bring out the best from my child to master her biology class. Indeed, Tina is a great asset to your company.
