I am currently a 4th-Grade Teacher in mathematics. I have been teaching for the past 15 years. In these years, I have taught in all subject areas. I have taught grade levels 3-6. For the past 10 years I have been tutoring in the school setting as well as having tutored outside of the classroom on the weekends for two students for the past four years.
I love tutoring because I can directly, one-to-one assess what the areas of need are. Every child can learn and succeed, it is up to the teacher to find how the child learns, what's holding them back, and work towards attainable goals. I can do this with any child.
My Master's is in Literature. I love the written word and helping students first learn to read, then read to learn in all areas. My strategies for vocabulary comprehension are varied and strong; without word knowledge, comprehension is not attainable. I have taken students with reading levels two grades or more lower and increased them to beyond their current grade levels within one year. My teaching is deliberate and planned for each specific student.
I am a master teacher who mentors many of my peers. Because of the Common Core, I have had to develop a strong understanding of all the standards and follow a strict pedagogy using them. Within the tutoring process I use the standards to help ensure students are gaining knowledge that will directly help them within their classroom setting.
I have taught math for the past 15 years, and I love it. I teach three blocks a day with different levels of students: special needs, ESL, and regular Ed. Whatever class I teach, I embed various strategies to make certain all types of ability levels are reached and that they have many opportunities to meet with me for further understanding. I assess each student daily for understanding, and know that a base knowledge in basic facts is incredibly important, but understanding of concepts is imperative.
I would love to work and help your child. I am very flexible with my schedule and will try to accommodate your needs. I believe you as parents are vitally important, and I will keep you updated on the successes of your child, as well as inform you of what you can be doing at home to further increase their knowledge (if you desire so). I always work directly with the child and parents to form a bond to secure the student's success. Hope to hear from you. I am currently a 4th-Grade Teacher in mathematics. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have both my undergrad and Master's in Literature, and have been teaching grades 1-6 for the past 15 years to present day. During my everyday teaching I am engrossed in the Common Core within all my lessons, in which standards I use to tutor. I presently tutor 2 students outside of school, and have for the past 4 years. I also have tutored during school hours, summer school, and various programs over the years. I have tutored with regards to test prep, math, reading, vocabulary, writing, and in conversational French.
I am currently a 4th grade mathematics teacher. I have been teaching for the past 15 years in grades 3-6. During my career I have spent hundreds of hours dedicated to helping students learn strategies for test-taking. I don't just test them, I model different strategies for different types of tests, help with anxiety issues, and overall equip them with the tools for any testing situation.
