Academy of Art University
Hello all. There isn't much to tell really. I consider myself very personable and friendly and I love meeting new people. You will find me very easy-going and easy to talk to. My mother is a teacher, and teaching is something that comes to me naturally. My style might be considered 'practical', and I believe that the best way to learn a new skill is by constant practical application.
As a student of digital art/design, I have a lot of hands on experience with industry standard software. I have been trained on the Adobe Creative Suite and have been using it since 2006. I also have many years experience with traditional illustration (I have been drawing since childhood), although my official training didn't start until my junior year of high school. I recently changed my major from Illustration (which I did for two semesters) to Web Design/New Media when I realized that I really enjoy digital illustration/design.
My love for foreign language comes from my mother. I currently use my Spanish skills at work as translator for incoming as well as outgoing calls.
I hope to get to meet you and work with you very soon. Hello all. There isn't much to tell really. I consider myself very personable and friendly and I love meeting new people. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been using Illustrator since approximately 2006, when I first entered the Digital Media Arts program at TCI College of Technology. I graduated in 2008 with an AAS. I have continued to use Illustrator on a semi regular basis, primarily for designing promotional art for my small business and the occasional logo done freelance. Illustrator is my favorite program to use since I love drawing (as opposed to painting) and this program is perfect for that.
I have been using Adobe Photoshop since 2006 when I began coursework for my Associate's Degree in Digital Media Arts at TCI College of Technology in New York City. I started out with Photoshop 7 and I currently use CS6. I primarily use PS for digital painting. I normally do sketches in ink, which I then scan and paint digitally. I also use it for special effects and I am well versed in functions like masking and layer effects. I consider myself an intermediate user.
I currently use PS to design and execute promotional material for my small business Helme, particularly the Helmemates product.
I have been drawing since I could hold a pencil. My official training didn't being until my junior year in high school. It continued into my first and second years in college. I stopped drawing for a number of years but recently started courses in traditional illustration in the spring of 2009. I took two and a half semesters of traditional drawing and I am versed in the use of materials such as charcoal, kneaded erasers, graphite pencils and chalk pastels. I am also trained in skills such as sight measuring and life drawing. I have completed coursework on hand should proof of my skills be required.
Drawing is an art that requires a lot of patience- I have been known to spend three or four days on a single piece, often devoting more than 4-5 hours a day on the piece. I have an extreme eye for detail and I believe that the most critical aspect of a drawing is its setup. I look forward to polishing this skill that I have been able to develop by teaching it and passing along whatever knowledge I have gained.
I have been doing graphic design since 2006 when I started the Digital Media Arts program at TCI College. I finished in 2008 with an AAS and graphic design continues to be a large part of my life since I have a small business and I use graphic design to promote it via social media. I enjoy mixed media, and enjoy exploring new visual concepts as much as possible.
