Mindy is extremely patient. She is flexible in her instruction, organized and very strong at teaching mathematics. She always comes prepared with proper materials and is always prepared to readily re-mediate any misunderstandings. She is able to effectively gauge weaknesses and strengths and design instruction accordingly. When I was still lacking confidence after a tutoring session, she was nice enough to call me on the phone and correct any misunderstandings. It is very evident that Mindy is a teacher at heart. She has a love for learning and facilitating success. Her explanations are extremely clear and explicit. She is very good at aligning instruction with the new common core. I am very satisfied with my experience with Mindy. I absolutely love her and I am so glad I am working with her. I highly recommend! Best tutor ever and has an abundance of patience!
Mindy helped me with Algebra 1 for my Common Core Algebra Regents. Mindy really helped me understand the areas I had trouble with, and I feel so much more confident about the test! She is really nice and very patient, I really enjoyed our session - THANK YOU !!
Mindy has tutored my 7 year old son for nearly a year now and the progress is evident. She is extremely patient with him and always has methods to keep him engaged. He looks forward to her weekly tutoring sessions.
She is even tutoring him during the summer to make sure he keeps his skill-set and learnings from 2nd grade, while slowly introducing 3rd grade concepts. In the areas where he struggles (reading comprehension, some math and telling time), Mindy always finds a way to incorporate each of those areas in her lessons.
Mindy has helped us by sharing her concepts so we can utilize during homework sessions when she is not there, but most importantly, so we keep consistency in how our son is learning and studying.
Mindy is working with my daughter on Algebra to prep for the Regents exam. She was very helpful and was able to adapt her approach to the new Common Core Algebra Regents. We will continue to work with Mindy.
My son has excelled with Mindy. She is patient and seems to understand his learning style. She always prepares for his lesson and presents things in many different ways so that he will learn the topic. I really appreciate her willingness to give daily practice examples. Strongly recommended.
Mindy takes her time and finds ways to get our son, who has a short attention span, to learn. We continually see the improvement in his math. He adores her and so do we!
Mindy has helped our daughters significantly, helping them gain a deeper understanding by teaching them techniques on how to approach each math problem, so they can advance on their own.
They have both started to improve their grades and confidence.
Tuned-in to the student's needs. Calibrates accordingly. Responsive to the student's difficulties as the student wends her way through Algebra's various challenges. Her availability lends to the student's growing self-confidence. Yet she is gently demanding.
Although my daughter was available for a brief period of time, Mindy has made every effort to provide my daughter with the lessons that are worthy of our time and effort as well as expense during our vacation. The strong rapport that Mindy had with my daughter for the duration of the lessons is not only commendable but also effective in obtaining the positive results of the lessons. Thank you very much Mindy.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked for the past 11 years in an Elementary school focusing on the literacy and Math program with grade levels K-5. With my 11 years of assistant teaching with elementary students specifically with literacy, language arts and math and my experience tutoring math through middle school and algebra, I feel highly qualified to tutor in the area of the COOP/HSPT exam. My expertise in mathematics through college level courses coupled with my extensive training in language arts at the primary level enable me to tutor students of various needs. I am currently tutoring two students who will be taking this test in November. I feel my experience with tutoring for the math regents, the GED, and the 10th grade International Exam have prepared me in all areas required for the COOP/HSPT exam.

With my 11 years of experience working with k-2nd grade literacy program, I feel that I would qualify for a phonics certification. My skills include alphabet sounds, practicing beginning and ending sounds, family groups, and strategies used to teach phonics. My responsibilities for the past 10 years with first graders included reading books from level 1-level 20 every day with ~20 students reinforcing many phases of phonics.
I have worked as a Teacher's Aide for 11 years. My main focus with reading has been in the primary levels. In Kindergarten, I instruct students through two of the four literacy centers used daily to achieve letter and sound recognition and to increase writing proficiency. In first grade I read daily with each student working on strategies to help them achieve independence. I assist in the writing component of utilizing and organizing thoughts and sentences. For second grade, I assist with math and writing workshops. I help students to produce effective writing, revising and editing techniques. With third graders, I assist with reading, writing and occasionally math. Twice a week, I meet with two book club groups, which emphasize and incorporate reading strategies and techniques.
I have been tutoring since January 2013 with WyzAnt. I have prior mathematics tutoring experience both with the algebra regents and with the math portion of the GED. I have worked for the past 11 years in an Elementary school focusing on the literacy and Math program with grade levels K-5. I have had the opportunity to work one on one with several children with ADD/ADHD over the years as well as other learning and emotional disorders: including autism and Aspergers. I am able to quickly build a trusting relationship with the child and use different strategies to keep their interest and attention.
