About SABYASACHI

My role as a teacher has evolved from a tutor to a teaching assistant, and now a lecturer over the last few years. My routine duty in all these roles included giving lectures, tutorials, preparing and grading homework sets, and examination papers. The diverse background of the students in all these classes helped me to broaden my teaching perspective. Having pursued my undergraduate studies in India, and my graduate studies in France and Germany, I was aware of the possible differences in the pedagogical styles followed in different parts of the world. Some of the students in my classes encountered similar problems as they were more used to learning mathematics in a fashion that was more computational than conceptual, and I tried to help them to bridge this gap. I paid attention to all the small details trying to be as rigorous as possible.

I have several years of experience of teaching mathematics effectively at various levels, including middle school, high school, and university. As a lecturer in SUNY Stony Brook, I have learned pedagogical techniques that help me address particular needs of individual students. The key to my success as a teacher resides in my ability to strike the right balance between mathematical rigor and conceptual explanations.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I have given ACT Math lessons to several young students in the past, and have great experience in addressing specific needs of the students. I explain mathematical concepts intuitively starting from scratch which enables students develop problem-solving ability.

Algebra 1

I have a PhD in mathematics, and I have taken several courses on algebra during my undergraduate and graduate studies.

Algebra 2

I have a PhD in mathematics.

Calculus

I have a Ph.D. in mathematics and I am an instructor of calculus II at Stony Brook University.

Differential Equations

I did my undergraduate with honors in mathematics, and my master's in mathematics. I have taken introductory and advanced courses on differential equations. My Ph.D. thesis was related to differential equations and dynamical systems. Currently, I am giving a graduate course on differential equations and dynamical systems in Stony Brook University.

Discrete Math

I have taken courses on discrete mathematics during my undergraduate and graduate days, and use the concepts actively in my research.

Finite Math

I have a PhD in mathematics, and I have a sound background in all the topics that are covered by finite mathematics, such as matrix theory, combinatorics, set theory, probability, statistics, etc. I have taught many of these topics in the past.

Geometry

As a lecturer in Stony Brook University, teaching geometry is regular part of my job.

Linear Algebra

I have taken courses on introductory and advanced linear algebra. As a lecturer of math in Stony Brook University, teaching linear algebra is a part of my regular duty. I did master's in mathematics.

Prealgebra

I have many years of experience teaching Prealgebra. I place particular emphasis on helping my students develop computational skills so that they get comfortable solving equations and simplifying expressions.

Precalculus

I am a math professor in Stony Brook University, and have a lot of experience teaching calculus and precalculus. I like to explain the concepts of algebra and trigonometry at a fundamental level, which constitute a major portion of precalculus. Going forward, a good background in these topics helps students tackle calculus courses with greater ease.

Probability

I have taken several courses on probability during my undergraduate and graduate studies.

SAT Math

I have tutored many students preparing for SAT Math in the past, and my ability to help students grasp basic concepts helped them get a good score in SAT.

Trigonometry

I am a lecturer in Stony Brook University, and trigonometry is one of the basic subjects that I have to teach my students.
