Please check out my WyzAnt blog (click the "Resources" tab, above) for a sample physics lesson. In addition, I am a representative to the public for NASA and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and a guest scientist at Brookhaven National Laboratory. My fields of expertise are astrophysics, physics, astronomy and information technology. Additionally, I am qualified to teach all of the natural sciences including Earth science, geology, environmental science and biology and all levels of mathematics up to and including calculus.

I have a life-long passion for astronomy, physics, mathematics and the natural sciences and want nothing more than to share that passion with the young, fertile minds so eager to learn and grow.

Education
B.S., Physics, 1983, Stony Brook University
M.Sc. (Cum Laude), Astronomy, 2011, James Cook University

Tutoring Philosophy & Approach
Using a variety of methods that include diagrams, images, multi-media and real-life experiences, I try to develop each student’s innate abilities using a conceptual approach to problem solving, allowing them to internalize the material on their own. This approach provides the basis for an authentic and long-lasting understanding and provides the basis for new insights and independent discovery. In short, I make learning fun and enjoyable and something the student looks forward to.

Excellence
1. Results oriented with demonstrable improvement in higher test scores and passing courses
2. Develop an individual style and rapport with each student, engendering confidence and reliability with an eye towards completeness
3. Focus on the of understanding concepts and the development of problem solving skills rather than memorization
4. Excellent communication and writing skills

Quality of Instruction
I am a college professor and, as such, my time is valuable. I believe that education is the key to elevate society and the world and the only way to maintain the best traditions and standards of an enlightened civilization. Since both the student's time and my time are valuable, and in the interests of promoting and maintaining the highest standards of excellence in tutoring, teaching, education and mentorship, I will only travel to a location for the purposes of teaching, tutoring or instruction. I will not travel to a location to be evaluated or interviewed as my credentials speak for themselves; further, I have been vetted and certified by Wyzant, complete with a Background check. Any potential client, student or student representative (parent or guardian representing a student) who engages me with intentions other than for the specific purpose of teaching, tutoring or instruction will be assessed a cancellation fee in accordance with my cancellation policy.

Very knowledgeable tutor

Thomas helped me with one of the school projects that I had to turn in. He is a great tutor because he helped me earn a 100 on my project. I would recommend him if you have trouble with astronomy.

Very thorough and patient.

My wife has just completed a Microsoft course with Tom M. and we could not be more pleased with the results. His approach was well thought out and very easy to grasp. He was patient, soft spoken and above all focused on the tasks at hand. We found him to be very accommodating and gladly recommend him.
