I am a Ph.D. candidate in Mathematics at the Stony Brook University (SUNY) and also a tutor for students looking for additional help in both: math and physics. Before entering the doctoral program, I graduated as a physics major (UFSC) and got a master's degree (IMPA) in mathematics. This academic journey allowed me to develop a strong background in a wide variety of subjects, and since I entered the university, besides working on my own academic research, I have also been tutoring and helping other students to succeed in their own enterprises. It is such a rewarding experience to see students growing along the way!

I began tutoring students in 2015 while an undergrad. At that time, I started working as a teaching assistant for courses in the university. My responsibilities included in class recitations and also grading homeworks and exams. Since then, I have been assigned several classes as a teaching assistant, such as Calculus I, II and III, Precalculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations and General Physics. Furthermore, I have tutored and helped many students learn and get excellent grades in essentially every level, from high school to graduate courses, and most subjects in math and physics (in one-on-one and small group meetings.)

As part of my teaching philosophy, I believe that anyone can really understand any subject, provided two essential ingredients: good instruction and effort. My role is to provide you with good instruction, as well as to encourage you to put effort in the right direction in order to achieve your goals. All these years of experience of teaching and tutoring made me realize that each student has their own pace. Part of my job is to quickly figure out your difficulties and find the best explanation (or several of them if needed!) to the concepts and exercises that we are covering. I am very patient and will explain many viewpoints connecting different parts of math, so you can create intuition about the subject. Learning can be fun!

Patient and knowledgeable

John tutored my son twice now in Multivariable Calculus (Calc 3). It has been difficult finding a tutor who is both personable AND knows this content. John is both. He patiently teaches each concept thoroughly and clearly has a solid grasp of all math concepts. He also easily figures out where my son's strengths and weaknesses are so he can quickly help my son. My son has already raised his grade and confidence. I highly recommend John for your math tutoring needs as he is the best tutor we have found. My son is gifted and math is his best subject, so it was concerning to see my son's confidence wane this year. However, since John has been tutoring, our son's confidence is back up and his grades are also moving upwards in just two sessions. I strongly recommend this tutor. We have had other tutors over the years from Algebra 1 all the way to AP Calc and now to Calc 3, and John is the best.

Very Knowledgeable Tutor

John walked me through each of the questions that I had and made sure that I understood them. It was very clear that he had a lot of knowledge regarding multivariable calculus.
