While being already back then a Yiddish poet, I started teaching Yiddish in early 1990s at private classes and the Jewish University of Saint Petersburg, Russia. Later on, I studied full-time for several in Yiddish-speaking Hasidic communities of London, Brooklyn and Monsey. For over 14 years, I worked as a journalist, editor, translator for the Yiddish Forward newspaper in New York. My Yiddish articles, poems and short stories appeared in a variety of newspapers, magazines and books, as well as on several radio stations. I gave lectures at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, at the Limmud Conference and elsewhere. My Yiddish students speak now fluently and grammatically correctly.
I studied physics at the State University of Saint Petersburg and conducted many fun experiments with children, including building transmitters, Tesla coils, radios and other electronic devices.
Perfect native speaker of Russian; Achieved expert level above 99% of native speakers in Yiddish; Fluent in classical rabbinical Hebrew; Fluent in English and published both creative and academic texts in a variety of English publications; fair knowledge of Esperanto and German; some basic knowledge of French, Persian, Arabic, Latin, Greek and Irish Gaelic.
Besides languages, I also made many fun chemistry experiments at science fairs, used microscope to watch crystal growth, bacteria with children, showed them wild plants and mushrooms. I always try to make natural sciences as fun and applicable in real life as possible! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I studied in the Tomchei Temimim Yeshiva in St. Petersburg, Russia, from 1993 till 1995. Then I studied In the Ohalei Yaakov Yeshiva in Moscow from 1995 till 1997. I taught Hebrew and Yiddish in Russia and Ukraine from 1994 till 1997. Later on, I studied for several years in prestigious Yiddish-speaking Hasidic rabbinical institutions in London and New York, which required perfect understanding of Hebrew, Yiddish and Aramaic. I am certified to teach Jewish subjects since 2000.
I am using exclusively Linux and Unix (FreeBSD, NetBSD, Solaris and Mac OS X) in all my desktop and laptop computers at home and at work since 2001. I worked as a Unix and Linux administrator for over 14 years.
I worked as full stack a back end and front end web developer, running and coding Linux-based servers, for about 14-15 years. I gave Linux crush courses to adults and children.
